I was told for so long how good the 22r is and I got one and it's completely unspectacular, there's nothing special about toyotas vs any other brand it's just massive bias and fanboyism.

Cusco stabilizers front and rear, TRD short stroke suspension, poly bushings, strut bars front and rear and a bit of camber front, not much toe in. Car's stable at 200kmh and goes around corners like a beast.

Whatever highlight you may try to convince yourself this car possesses and others don't, it still doesn't justify the fact that you have to pay more than the car is worth because of a Japanese cartoon.

You are literally playing hundreds if not thousands more than necessary for the sole reason that this car was featured in a old ass cartoon about cars.

So i think im the first whos writing here wo really owned one: first im from austria and heres the insurance tax based on the time how long you drive without accident by your fault AND based on how many horsepower you have. Beacause of that i was searching for a light car which hasnt to much hp and didnt get to expensive in insurance tax. I wasnt only searching for a ae86 first i wanted an 200sx s13 because it had a turbo and was newer and mich safer! But there was also the problem of the hp and the insurancetax. (I was just part time working at that time in 2011 and hadnt that much money for affording the rent for living and the car) .
So after a while i found on ebay an ae86 with low milage(km) and with many extra spareparts (engine,transmission,differential and many many more parts). This made me to visit the owner and car bevor the auction started. So luckily i got the car in 2011 for 2500 euro. (Sold in 2013 for 4200€ (only the car)

My ae86 had the extra available wax chassie preservation because of that it was not totally rusty and fucked up if you want one look for one with the sticker under the bonnet.

To the car itself it was simply amazing for me: first impression when i sat myself in the car was that i was shocked how ugly the interior was because it looked so old. (i love the interior now and miss it ^^)
On my first way home i began to love the car on the first miles cause it was totally a unique car with soul, cause it made sounds from the transmission the differential, the enginesound, just everything was giving you the feeling your driving a real car not the pussishit with ac and abs (which i love!),esp and many more driving ads which blures the puristics of driving.

My car had koni shocks and unnknow springs and was harder than stock which made it perfect for me for drifting which i loved in this car (i was just drifting in the rain cause i do not wanted to extra stress the car and because of the lack of safty and power .. con

Con: because of the lack of safety and power ists tough to drift it on dry surfaces.
Because of the good weight and weigh distribution you can reach really good cornerspeeds which makes it hard to risk the car and yourself just for drifts in the dry...

It just feels like you have an extension of your body which gives you an extra feeling when driving and racing the car You have really good seats in it which can be adjusted to grip your body better (really funny feature i miss this in newer cars) this makes you feel also really safe in the car which it simply isnt, its a deathtrap in fact.

I sold mine because of my part time working i wasn able to afford what the car needed and i didnt wanted that it rusted or got other damages and simplie dies standing in a garage, so i sold the car to an owner who could give the car what it needed.
Now in 2017 im working fulltime and could easily afford it as 2nd car. But there prices are gone really creazy and there are also not much left on the streets.when i had mine i knew 15 left in austria which were on the roads (3 in vienna with mine)

If i will find a good cheap 7-10k one, i might buy it because the memories and feeling i had it the car was just undiscribeable and i love and miss it.

Im currently driving a 07 twingo gt turbo (125hp/180nm ecu tuned on dyno) which is also nice but just hast no soul and is fwd ( i bought the car because i wanted a cheap and safe car with turbo so i can boost it)
For me yeah its worth 10k and an car which will require all your skills and awareness even on daily situations (passing on mixed conditions) and skills on repairing the car its old and needs its attention, but its also a honor to drive it

Never watched Initial D, wanted an ae86 since I was like 10 or 12, ever since I played need for speed underground on my old ps2. It's just a very pretty car, most I'd ever pay would be about 7k, imported from Japan.

The first few seasons of Initial D were alright, but it has nothing to do with the cars popularity, I doubt 10% of ae86 owners here have even heard of it, let alone bought their car because of it.
