>How to get more money from huge trade centers (if it was out of my territory I got less than .5 ducats/month)

>are colonies more trouble than they're worth? should I just keep new continents in my own territory? I colonized australia by accident, I read the text box too fast

Spam colonists, you need money to do it though. You can colonise as many places as you want at once, if you have the money. If not you have to do it like a pleb with one colony per colonist.

You have to push it to a single CoT, with merchants pushing it there every step of the way, if that's not possible, say, the Ottomans own all of the Gulf of Aden then you have to push it as far as possible, so, from Canton to Goa. You get a big penalty for collecting out of your home node though.

Depends if they're upstream or not. Spain colonising the Caribbean makes sense, as that trade goes to Seville, but Brunei colonising Brazil doesn't.

Morale is arguably the most important stat for winning battles, since it doesn't matter how strong your army is if it shatters in a week.

Yeah, Paradox took a pretty hard line fairly recently, locking computers, taking down the archive, apparently if you have pirated content on your computer and are signed into steam it detects it, even if you're not using it with the game.

Were you forced marching? That fucks you up bad as it doesn't regenerate. If not it could be any number of things, the AI uses so much bullshit it's untrue.

but then once the battle started my men were INSTANTLY at 50% morale

Yeah, morale damage is a stat. If they have higher base morale and high morale damage they'll shatter your army before you can even do anything. There are various modifiers from ideas, policies, and making sure you're on the highest military tech that all affect stuff like that. France, for instance, gets a big morale boost from their Elan! tradition.

Also, another thing to keep in mind is combat width. By default it's 15, iirc, and basically that's how many regiments can actually be part of the battle at once. Artillery goes on the back row, so it has a separate width altogether, and provides damage reduction to your infantry. Having more artillery than your combat width does nothing for you, but having more infantry is helpful since they take the majority of the casualties in battles. Cavalry you only need as much as your flanking bonus, so 2/4/8/etc.

Also shock is your most important stat for pretty much the whole game.
