Nero's mean team strength is way higher than Tamamo's mean team strength, it doesn't matter if Karna could single-handedly kill Altera's entire team at once as long as Nero's team can defeat the rest of team Tamamo with little difficulty. Lu Bu is the only character aside from Karna that's even a threat on team Tamamo.

Beating Team Altera doesn't sound all that difficult when the game explains Iskander could not give less of a shit about fighting unless you let him rev up, and Gil is just hanging out to see what happens with Hakuno. Jeanne is the only ally of Altera that is actually serious. So really, the team is Altera and Jeanne.

In most short battles, you simply don't need to NP too much and Sanzo ends up better since she can reliably get off 2 NPs within 3 turns while also having more Atk.

Medea's definitely better in longer fights, though.

When would you need ST Caster damage in short battles? The only time you whip it out is Assassin bosses, soul eaters and those big ghosts, who all have a shitton of health and who a lot have dodges that Sanzou can't do shit to. On top of that Medea can first turn NP without any CEs or relying on other characters then chain that into other NPs since her secondary is even more NPs.

Between her unrivaled spam and her utility she really is the best ST Caster despite being a 3*. Sanzo outdamages her on the first NP but even if you build up her NP charge before the third wave her personal charge only goes up to 80% so you need to get her cards or have someone else charge her for a back to back NP, and she can't do 3 or 4 consecutively like Medea can.
