Be a young person in present day

Be a young person in present day,
>buy a new car, something you think looks cool or just a good investment.
>pay it off and take really good care of it.
>wash it regularly, keep it in garage, make sure its regularly maintanenced
>decades down the line, you're an old person and still have your car and its in great shape
>Year 2056 and your driving around in your 2017 Whatever

Will you been seen as having an interesting classic car regardless of the make and model? I personally would like to be in that situation, being that old guy who is the only owner of a car and just kept damn good care of it so it would last. But I guess the big question is, whats a good car to invest in these days to have the long term future appeal?

On a side note, will cars made today even survive that long?

Anything with a V8 will be a classic. There's great possibility there will no longer be any made by 2030. I think cars will last that long. You have to take care of it like anything else.

I would go for the top trim focus RS and be the envy of every goddamn car meet for the next 500 years

>thinking a focus RS will run past 4 years
>thinking anyone will envy a shitty girls hatchback
Ill just be rolling in my unkillable corolla

Not a damn chance. Cars made nowadays will be long outlived by cars made 60 years prior. Iron and steel mechanical systems can be infinitely rebuild, remade, and re machined. Modern cars with incredibly complex electronics and specially molded plastic everything will be unrestorable once part availability dries up. 3D printing might make certain things replaceable, but I don't know about things like plastic intake manifolds, valve covers, etc.

Not to mention, cars nowadays are seen as appliances by most people. A big reason old cars survive is because people love them enough to spend insane sums of cash and long hours doing the restorations.

At the same time though, anything with an ICE will have a certain collector status in the future I think. N/A ICE engines are rapidly being phased out, and hybrid technology combined with autonomous driving being the "future" currently pushed will result I think in a lot of nostalgia for the "good ol' days" of piloting your own dino explosion box free of Google taking the wheel.

None. All 2017 cars are stuffed full of electronics and wires and shit, and it'll be nearly impossible to keep all that in good condition.

This, and also modern cars look like shit so nobody will think, "hey look at that piece of shit, it looks very kewl, what a classic"

Cars were appliances back then too, buddy. Only the good examples and special examples survive.

The various econoboxes and lemons of the 50s, 60s, 70s, etc are dead and rusting.

The only KINDA recent cars that fit this description would be:
90s NSX
70s-80s porsches
Diablos, F40s, etc
80s BMWs
MAYBE cars like the 4c, lotus, shit that is more carbon and less plastic

Chevy SS, and muscle car, and car with a big engine and lots of horses right now would be worth a lot honestly. Also any limited edition cars (or any car that's either discontinued, or very rare)

Ok, So invest in something with a V8 and get the top trim level?

dont you think some people talked shit about about the classics we admire now?

70's 80's and 90's are kinda out of the question in this scenario. you cant get those brand new these days. In the situation I proposed, you would be the only owner of the vehicle and bought it from the dealer.

How would you spot the potentially iconic cars of tomorrow, today?

Anything on the cover of a video game or in major movies.
People want a countach because it was on their walls as a kid and was in Need for Speed.

i like to think my e39 m5 is gonna be bad ass af in like 30-40 years

Do you think something like the Crown Vic will be a worth while potential classic car?

No.
Nothing made in high volume will ever be because the price will never go up.
It needs to be rare as well.
A Diablo SV is worth a few hundred grand. A regular diablo isn't worth nearly as much.

you'll wreck it before you've even gotten off the lot for your test drive
they can't turn

Miata, GT86/BRZ/FRS, WRX, any of the American muscle car lineup (Not that they look particularly good, but going by history), probably a handful of BMWs.

what about anime?

what is it with the 86 being a clasic

also, muscle cars? Good luck turning those.

Because their not very spectacular but people are abusing and throwing them away a lot these days, by 2056 they'll be so rare and unique if Lincoln or ford still existing I'll have them begging me left and right to buy it

but that doesn't mean that they will be around in high volumes forever. Look at the 90's Chevy Caprice, same situation but they are becoming harder to find these days, especially since niggers donk and destroy them. I think a clean Crown Vic will have some good potential twenty years down the line.

I think it just looks like a classic, has nice lines and will probably be desirable despite being underpowered.

I don't really care for American muscle cars, but look at the history. Look at how much the classic ones sell for, and how desirable they are to a large number of people.

i was wondering why the number 86 is so classic
ae86
gt86

some will like galvanized steel gelandewagens and 70 land cruisers.

>you cant get those brand new these days.
brand new?
top trim level v8 mustangs, and maybe even the GTs. I have a feeling the next gen mustang will only have a cross plane v8 in the gt350/gt500. The normal GT will be ecoboost v6. Chevy SS. Maybe top trim level camaro

Maybe the GT86/BRZ, but i wouldn't expect them to increase in value much.

Acura NSX, Audi R8, Vette and other supercars

Lmao keep telling yourself that while you putter around with less than 150hp

t. europe

Fiat 500, VW Beetle, Mini?

In what backwards fucking dimension does the value of a Fiat 500 appreciate?

>modern cars
>lasting any longer than 15 years max
nice joke lad
yes it could
they're very common cars and are usually mistreated to hell and back
actual PIs will be worth a lot when the others have been crashed or used to the point the pistons just bang around the cylinders.

>2017 cars
>take good care of it
Yeah, if you're a fucking electrical engineer and programmer.

Lets be honest, how long do you think RWD has left?

Miats best future classic

Veeky Forums likes a lot of cars that aren't really considered classics by the rest of the auto-enthusiast community. I think a lot of cars produced in the last 10 years or so will have niche appeal in the future.

the GT86 was supposed to be a throwback to the AE86, which achieved cult-classic status. tbqh I don't think it did a very good job of it but that's besides the point.
