Well it hit me after I'd sent like 7 ghosts in that I could just lay down an astral projection rune as well and observe my manifested ghosts doing their thing, but by then it was all over.

I even built a chair to strap myself into so new manifestations wouldn't accidentally knock me off the runes.

No clue. One of them showed up in the brig after most of sec was dead and helped me finish off the last officer there and free the cultists, but I didn't see the other two.

Yeah even though it was my first time culting, the potential is completely obvious. Immediately, i'd say you probably shouldn't be able to draw more than one rune on the same tile at a time, and the manifested ghosts either shouldn't be unstunnable, or you shouldn't be able to have more than one out at a time per cultist due to having to "concentrate" or somesuch.

Luckily we still had the guy who converted me in xenobio to finish the job with narsie, though I did manage to send a translated tome in with my 9th or so manifested ghost.
