Are some civilisations objectively better than others?
People like to shittalk certain civilisations, African, Islamic, and Indian especially, for not producing anything of real global value, or for being primitive, or degenerate, does this make them less important?
What is the criteria for a civilisation to be important in the grand scheme of things?
>objectively How is this even judged? A certain brand of autist rails against moral relativism but how can anybody not view something as complex as cultures, societies, civilisations through their own personal lens?
Daniel Richardson
>Bulgarian Empire, Russian Empire & Qing China at least not mid-tier >Soviet Union shit-tier instead of at least low-tier >Republic of Venice, Japanese Empire & Macedonian Empire top-tier instead of mid-tier whoever made this list sure loved their memes
Jeremiah Barnes
History is not a game of Civilization so I don't think any less of societies which didn't achieve a high score. Human creativity is valuable no matter where it appears, and if there was more research into non-Western art and culture we might not longer automatically assume Western culture is superior.

ALSO: Ancient Persians literally created these ideas as a lot of historian argue: >foundationalism / essentialism >notion of progress >transcendental good and evil
I hate to break it to you, but whenever you think of these concepts within your narrative, you are our bitch.
Finally, there would be no Christianity without Zoroastrianism.
Light equivalent to good and darkness to evil = Zoroastrian origin
Day of Judgment = Frashokereti
Jesus as Savior = Saoshyant

I actually don't have a reaction image that accurately conveys how hard I am laughing IRL right now, so you'll have to use your imagination. It should suffice to say that you have destroyed my sides almost as hard as Alexander destroyed your civilization.
Charles Smith
Fuck off. Light equals good because the Sun grew our food.
Gavin Moore
>as hard as Alexander destroyed your civilization. Neither Alexander nor Arabs destroyed my civilization. For example, most of the contributions during the Islamic Golden Age came from Persians from Greater Khorasan area of Greater Iran (e.g., Avicenna, Al-Khwarizmi, Rhazes, Al-Farabi, Khayyam, etc. all came from this area).
Mongols set us back, but we were able to reform thanks to Safavid Empire. We never reached the same intellectual glory, but we preserved our myths and respect for our ancestors (e.g., we still read our Zoroastrian epic Shahnameh and poetry from a lot of Sufi masters -- we also practice our Zoroastrian holidays Nowruz, Yadla, and Mehregan much to the chagrin of Arabs who still call us pagans).
Why don't you actually read a book about country's history before speaking out of your ass, you dumbass edgy teenage asshole?
I have a lot of respect for many civilizations, including Ancient Rome. I like Seneca a lot.
Isaac Walker
>we were able to reform we were able to reassert ourselves* It took awhile to recover from the devastation of the Mongol invasions unlike Alexander or Arab invasions.
Also, Alexander held a lot of respect for Persian culture. He even married a Persian, dimwit. I wish he didn't burn Persepolis' library though... Granted, after the Seleucid Empire, the Sassanian Empire emerged, and they were better than the Achaemenids, imo.
Ethan Anderson
I'm sorry bro I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I understand it must be hard living in a country that has been conquered and humiliated more times than just about anyone outside of the Balkans. Especially on a board like Veeky Forums where you must be constantly reminded of how irrelevant your history is in the grand scheme of things.
Brandon Anderson
>irrelevant your history is in the grand scheme of things. Obviously, you are an ignorant teenager who doesn't take the time to read encyclopedias or books. If my history were irrelevant, then why were your greatest writers, from Goethe to Nietzsche highly inspired by my country's writers? Look here:
Also, New Persian is not different from Middle Persian, which was used in Sasanian times. We still have a strong link to our nation's past through our rituals (e.g. Nowruz and Yalda), literature (Shahnameh), and etc. Very few people on history, except Arabs, think lowly of Persians.
Go fuck yourself, ignorant asshole. Even now we have plenty of great artists like Abbas Kiarostami, who the acclaimed French film director - Michael Haneke - called the best film director of the 20th century. You can go fuck yourself.
Logan Jenkins
Also, look up Richard Foltz. He is a specialist in the history of Iran who is currently alive. He would most certainly disagree with you Iran is irrelevant.
Richard Frye also held high esteem for Iran, but he's dead now.
I call them the "two Richards of Persia".
Also, the country has been called "Iran" since pre-Islamic Sasanian times. In Sassanid empire it was called "Iran shahr" which means land of the "Aryans". Persia is just the Greco-Roman word for Iran.

Late post, but Prussia wasn't a civilization. Prussia was a hugely successful kingdom that gave birth to an extremely powerful nation, but civilization wise it wasn't as great as say Britain, which colonized and created the anglo-sphere. Unfortunately it isn't even as "great" as what the Spanish Empire was at its height. With that said, I don't think it should count as a civilization, because "Prussian civilization" already has strong links and implications that it is German civilization.
