because it happens to me now and then and it's really frustrating

A pinto has an unhappy gas tank. If it was rear ended the gas tank liked to leak. Usually in a crash there are sparks so kaboom.

It was even more ridiculous than that.

There was a bolt in bumper area that was just a bit too long and rather than fix it they decided to wait for a refresh because it would cost like a $1/car to do it earlier

I normally give pop it into 2nd and give gas while slowly letting the clutch out like you would normally. You could probably take off in third if you don't stall it.

Literally happened today. I had to pull over and pull it with my hands. Whats weird is the car stalled once i stopped, meaning the clutch wasn't pushed in, despite it being depressed fully.

Sounds like something hydraulic popped.

Its got a clutch cable. I inspected it, and suspect that the return spring catches on a piece of plastic near it. Tried to replicate it but couldn't. So im waiting for it to happen again, hopefully someplace with less traffic.
