You can talk about how deep and good your favorite game is and blame the mean old Nintendo crowd for your favorite game being dead, but at the end of the day, they actually bother to organize events and have scenes, whether you like them or not. What matters is how many people are willing to pay and show up, and the NIntendo/Smash audience has shown, time and time again, that they can and will show up to events whilst your "good" games have less than 20 entrants at times, even at big events.
