according to that thread stone sword does more dps than iron pike

As it should be. Pikes give you ridiculous range and you can kill an entire raiding squad if you funnel them into a chokepoint

DPS = damage per second. Pike attacks 0.8 times a second for 56 damage. Stone sword attacks 1.6 times a second for 30 damage. That's 60 damage in the same time pike does 56. Durability and range are the only advantage, and it doesn't cleave as much as a sword.

Yea, the health of a lot of the regular mobs is fairly low. DPS only matters for enemies with high health pools, like the king mobs, or dragons.

For solo play, sword and shield is and will probably always be the best choice.

The iron pike has the retardely-good charge move though. Vs other players or any non-boss-tier mob it's objectively superior.

The charge activates literally instantly (faster than even a swordswing meaning you can press it in the middle of their animation and still pre-empt), had a MASSIVE hitbox, is fully controllable (meaning you can dash to the side and then spin to hit behind shields), and has the max stunning power which means it interrupts literally everything.

Let's also not forget it literally costs less stamina than a sword swing.
