911 also have good aerodynamics and handle verry well, wich is nessesary at high speeds since everything is a corner above 250km/h.
Poersche 911 are usually pretty powerfull even in stock form and have pretty high topspeeds due to their good aerodynamics and are ballanced well due to their RR layout.

That was how it was in that era of Japan mate. That's why it's not so impressive that the mid-night club consistently outran Japanese police, because of the speed restrictions on police cars.

I mean from 1974 to 1987 the top speed limit on any public road was federalized at 55 MPH, so it's not really all that uncommon.

Nope. All cars on public roads in Japan were and still are legally required to be limited to 180km/h which includes police cars. Why such an arbitrary high number I have no idea. Even more ironic is that the police bought "domestic" sports cars like FDs NSXs and GTRs with intent to keep up with them but still weren't allowed to remove the limiters.

I should add that I am from germany and we don´t have a universal enforced speed limit on highways, only a suggested speed noone cares about.
Also cars are not required to be limited to any speed here and pretty much any new econobox drives faster than 180km/h.

At least the FDs NSXs and GTRs can keep driving 180km/h in a corner, but that doesn´t help you if you try to catch the same type of car without the limiter...
