good thread

>lets never put monogame in any of the engine collection images

why?

Ren'Py is not an engine

added a chain lightning spell and an upstab, as well as some more decoration props. i think all the particles rekt the webm quality though

monogame is a framework

repostan progress.

gotta fix up some stuff, but I got this working now

So is LOVE.

yeah well the picture is shit

I mean, I dunno if you're the same guy, but I'd be willing to try. I'm not very picky, I just want some experience.

Which one of you muthafuckas did VA-11 HALL-A?

Camera now follows every fen but is weighted to put the real player closer to the center

>Source: developer.valvesoftware.com
Delete this thread and can some non-shitposter start a new one?

Keys when?

I can't into art

If I'm making a 2D shmup, and use placeholder assets (sprites stolen from Gradius) in order to start coding and fleshing out mechanics, how hard would it be to transition to new sprites down the road?

Is there a better way to handle placeholder stuff? If I want to design an original boss fight, how would I go about that without any art assets?

What engine?

Where are the 3D modeling infographs ?

Does anybody know how to resize sprites to be way the fuck bigger without making them blurry as shit?

>source in the OP image
>source in the OP text

Why? Why are they trying to ruin our thread?

There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the Source engine

Why is it bad to use Unity engine to make 2d games?

work at the intended resolution and zoom in your canvas

also use a raw format of some kind when resizing, like bmp

really?

Ask the Inside devs

youtube.com/watch?v=1VEKCCe3JAs

I gotchu senpai

>pixel platformer 3 levels long

>is 220 gb, requires a 64 bit processor and 128gb of ram, minimum an Pentium II but two 2gb VRAM video cards in SLI to run

You want to change the resampling method when scaling up - Photoshop and most image viewers have that option. In your case you'd want the Nearest Neighbor.

>bad programmers make a game with bad performance
>blame the engine

youre retarded

>tfw nobody responds to your progress because they'd rather shitpost about people asking questions
ganba, user

how do u resisze

I don't reply to 3d games

Umm... Are you sure about that?

Your game is quite bizarre and I love it

>work at the intended resolution and zoom in your canvas
What? No, I mean, when I'm working on it, that's fine. I can already zoom in. But the sprites I'm making are 32x32, so once I put them in the game, they're unbelievably small. So, I size'em up and then they're super blurry.

Making them bmps would fix that?

Holy heck, that's exactly what I mean- how'd you do that?

I don't think anyone's disputing that.

Fair enough.

I originally meant how do I resize once I've already put the image in the game, but this is probably a way less stupid way to do it, so thank you.

why?

...

congrats on being the first person to ruin this thread full of progress with anime

I thought it might be motivating. Didn't mean to piss anybody off.

it's linear / nearest neighbour scaling
it's... in everything
every image editor will do this

But there was already an anime banner at the top of the thread?

>going to develop a game by himself
>is too stupid to even figure out how to resize an image

I admire your ambition

sex with a woman

You just wait and see once I'm done with my game! You'll be like:
>That's what he wanted to make? That's stupid. He's stupid.

And then I'LL be the one laughing

>he's even shitting up /r9k/

desuarchive.org/r9k/thread/34735193/#34737810

Ugh. Can't we rangeban this fuck already? He doesn't even have a game.

Where is your game?

my dog ate it (lol!)

i don't see much talk about designing boss fights. What do you guys think make a memorable boss fight? It can be any genre.

screenshake and memes

taking your game mechanics to the logical extreme

A World in which this can fucking happen:
ebay.com/itm/Gorilla-Hot-Cheetos-RARE-One-of-a-Kind-Cheetos-Harambe-Gorilla-/172504352676

I suddenly have new found hope for succeeding in game dev. Because apparently people will buy all sorts of stupid shit

>full sail ""design advice"" shitposting
Where is your game? Do you even have a game?

Make sure when the boss hits half health it turns invincible and spawns a bunch of regular enemies that you have to defeat before the boss becomes hittable again

spotted the enginedev

Of course he doesn't have a game. He couldn't even glue a road together in garry's mod. And now he's trying to ruin the thread out of jealousy. :^)

>consistently having problems with Unity GUI
>get told that GUI is "no longer supported" and that I just should move on to the canvas-based system

fucking retarded, why would they even keep it in Unity if it doesn't work right anymore? canvas-based system is shit. Guess I'll have to spend even more fucking time recoding everything to work with a custom GUI system then. goddamn.

this game was made by SONY ITSELF

>Unity for pixel art

STOP

lovin' that one retarded missile.

show us all your games, o' wise master of gamedev.

Knack wasn't made in unity, this isn't a valid argument

>hey guys
>guys
>target is over there
>guys?
>guys, we gonna lose him
>oh fuck it

holy shit i didn't notice it until you posted it
now i'm dying

Are there any good video series for beginner drawing?

I will work hard tomorrow

he is just a retard looking for any excuse to post /v/ meemees

...

Made by, or published by?

well it shows that slow frame rate on ps4 is not a exclusive unity problem
wasnt broforce released on ps3 too?

Dev work for Knack was done by SCE Japan Studio.

welp

Both,
SCE Japan Studio is a sony studio.

I actually had no idea that Sony actually made video games.

>can walljump in plain air

radical

dude, that's not how you make your picture a meme, you have to be mean or you have to continue being totally fucking oblivious (and preferably dial it up a notch)

Wasn't trying to meme or anything. I was just being very stupid and asked a very silly question, and y'all helped me fix my issue.

>have to use actual game objects for the new UI system

fuck that's retarded

that's called a double jump user

sony has lots of inhouse studios
most of then just shit shovelware

a.k.a. double jump

oh, makes sense now
why does it change angles like a wall jump then?

i definitely have to tweak the jumps to make it easier to tell them apart, visually. right now, they both 'read' as wall jumps.

see

i see, just make it do a backflip during double jumps and it will be diferent. the game looks cool

ooh, nice idea.

and thanks for the compliment!

why is source even allowed

Im gonna be that guy, I would like to make a game. Itd be a hobby and nothing more but I want to take this seriously and will be dedicating about 9-12 hours a week to it. I dont know what specific kind of game I would like to make but I assume Ill have to make a series of 2d/3d simple concept single level type things until I get the hang of how to properly approach deving.

Is Unity right for me? If it is should I learn C# first or do it as I go?

Any generally well regarded tutorials or youtube vids for this sort of thing?

Im artistically challenged but I guess that wont matter until way further down the line. For the purposes of learning I imagine simple colors and shapes would be enough and on the 3d side free models should allow me to understand the actual game making?

Is this true?

va.lent.in/should-you-use-playmaker-in-production/

And if so, why do you fucking hacks use visual scripting machines?

Of course it's true, visual scripting machines are for babbies who are scared of learning technical skills

Blueprints fix all that

What the fuck is blueprints? Do you mean Unreal? Because that's a totally different engine, my dude.

you said "visual scripting machines" without specifying engine

The only thing this post proves is that Unity is garbage. Visual scripting is great and Epic Games have proven it.

>Platformer_V2_8 (65)
.....

link for the plugin ?

Yeah but the type of idiot who can barely code aka me who would want to use visual scripting shouldn't be using unreal

>literally 10 times worse performance than actual code

visual scripting is for babies and you should feel bad for using it but it shouldnt be any lower performance than textual scripting since it all has to be compiled or interpreted similarly anyway

In the absolute worst case, but they can be converted to C++ automatically now anyway.
