First dedicated track car

I have a nice newish daily driver and I don't want to track it anymore because my new job requires me to drive a fair amount. Also totaling it would be a pain in the ass. So I've been looking on Craigslist for a good front/rear car to play with.

Right now I'm really liking the gen 3 Supras, great looking, inline 6, mod potential, and no "drift tax" of the later Supras. I have several in my area with in decent shape for 3-5k.

Are these a good first track car? Any other good suggestions?

Would take a ton of work to be competitive.
Would likely never beat a miata.
Cool cars though.
>inb4 people suggesting clapped out BMWs

That's a gen 2 though.

Miata, NA or NB

E36 325is

Gen 2 or gen 3 I meant. Anything but the "10,000 no lowballers I know what I got" Supra

I really don't like Miatas at all desu, they do perform well but I'd rather have something else.

E30 318is
Supercharger kit under $1000
Easy 200+HP
Strip interior
Bilstein suspension/HR Sport springs
Full poly bushings

Can't go wrong

He wants to be competitive.
Not get beat by corollas or stuck at home with a broken car.
Fuck off

I should also specify that I've gotten into drifting, which is mainly why I don't want to drift my daily driver. I'll track it, but learning how to drift in a new car I need for work is asking for trouble.

>A corolla is in front of an E30
>That must mean it's faster
Okay buddy
Also M42s have killer reliability

E30 318is is a good start but why the fuck would he supercharge it

s52 would be cool

E30s are SLOOOOOOWWWWWW

FB RX-7, get the carbed engine if you're worried about dorito reliability

This.

I was leaning heavily towards these but after more research parts and maintenance may be an issue, although I'd love to blast by people on a 10,000 rpm Dorito.

S52 is lame
I've driven both E36 M3s and supercharged 318is (actually E36 318ti but similar engine) and I really enjoyed the 318 more.
forced induction is rad and swaps are lame IMO.

I wouldn't worry about parts or maintenance. They have huge communities and are super simple.
My next car is probably going to be an FB

Same here. Probably bp8 swap it though

seattle.craigslist.org/oly/cto/6001068697.html

I don't get swapping Miata engines into things. It's not a particularly special engine.I'd keep the 12a and just put money towards a Bridgeport or something
I plan to make mine the least practical daily and then daily it.

Fuel efficiency, more power, easily available parts and aftermarket.
Plus a 12a wont pass emissions where i live.

Oh I see you live in a shithole.
I live in Florida and I prioritize fun and looking like a hooligan over fuel economy.

Wow... you got mad fast. Insecure much?
The bp8 makes more power.
You can look like a hooligan all you want douchebag

Lol I wasn't trying to be mean. I like rotaries sorry. You don't have to get defensive about your econobox engine.
If anything you're the douchebag for trying to make an rx7 into a Miata.

I love rotaries. Have rebuilt many. I just know 12a parts are hard to get. Especially in my area.
So why not resurrect a shell with a blown engine?
Chill out man. Go take some spice and eat someones face or something

If I was going to swap a Miata engine into an RX-7 I would just buy a Miata in the first place.

I had a miata. Its super uncomfortable and cramped.
FB is much nicer.
Plus no annoying convertible

>not at least swapping in one of mazda's low displacement 1.8ish l V6s for some special snowflake status

Takes WAY more money to do that.
Not really worth it.

>implying you can hoon with florida highway patrol crawling up your ass at all times

Never had any problems with FHP, only shitty local police giving me tickets for 55 in a 45.

>piece of shit car that will be so worn out that it won't be near as nice to drive as it was when it was new 30 years ago

how about no

206 clone kart

google it

How has no one suggested a 240 or rx7 FC?
They're totally within your price range and the aftermarket is endless.

>go ride a go cart instead
lol no

13b swaps are a thing you know.

Yup. In know. Been trying to buy one for about a year now. Not a single one has popped up

Rx7? 1985 model?

79 to 85 in the US.
81 to 85 are best.

>gets mad and defensive over rotary purist bullshit
>>You don't have to get defensive about your econobox engine

Want to know how I know you're autistic?

you want an mr2

Op isn't entering a series or anything
Its a track car. Just a car to develop his skills
Anything with cheap parts and decent handling will do

They are 32 years old for the latest models do they even need emissions testing? If the factory engine can't pass emissions a swap probably isn't legal

Also it's like 10hp difference...
That's an exhaust on the 12a

...

>40 less hp
>200 extra kg
gee I wonder why

>op says he does not want a miata
>move engine, swap badge, and sell it to op

Swaps are legal in my state. No under hood inspections either.
As long as it passes the sniffer
Its like a 35hp difference actually
Ah yes. The good old toyota miata.
Or was is the mazda mr2?

>RX-7 Turbo II shell
>TII tranny
>B2600 tranny
>Swap transmission tailshafts
>Sell B2600 transmission with rotary bellhousing to someone who wants to dorito swap anything RWD
>4G64 SOHC from a 91+ Mitsubishi truck or van
>G4CP head from a Hyundai Sonata
>Timing kit from a 94 DOHC Gallant
>G4JS intake manifold from a later model Sonata
>Stock turbo and manifold from an Evo 7+
>Stock 8 Evo cams and valve springs
>Stock Evo injectors and fuel rail
>Stock WRX intercooler
>Evo 8 ECU
>300+ WHP with piston reliability
Am I forgetting anything?

So you wanna make it less reliable than a rotary?

There's 4G63s putting out 900+ horsepower out there. Mitsubishi's problem is literally everything that isn't in the engine bay.
