from my experience right now, NTR is fine, all my apps are fine except homebrew (which is borderline useless at this point,) and I've had no crashes at all. Just backup your NAND before you update and you are good to go

Frankly I think the best course of action after a nintendo update is to wait until the CFW yuou're using has updates out.

I know that the main difference between Mocha and Haxchi is that the latter does not require internet connection to install games.

But realistically, in order to get games on an SD you need internet connection anyway so where is the convenience seen? Is the Mocha browser method really slow and unreliable or is it as simple as typing in a website and installing a game? I'm not sure if I should just go ahead and get Mocha or if haxchi will truly streamline the process and be more logical.

I can still boot up 2.1 but if I do that it would be a point of no return for the n3ds. I imagine if I could obtain a factory n3ds firmware I could use the same method I used to install 2.1 to install that fw. It's worth a shot but I'm pretty convinced that I have a brand new paperweight either way.

you dont need to install any sort of cfw to install games. just enter the homebrew launcher through the loadiine browser exploit and install games with wup. installing haxchi just allows you to run the homebrew launcher off of the system menu which is useful if you dont want to have to go through the browser every time or in the unlikely scenario the browser exploit gets patched.

Luma + AL9H should be fine. Homebrew gets fucked over though, and there are a few other minor inconveniences, so it's not really worth it yet unless you are completely desperate to play online.

So I just finished installing a9lh on my o3ds and I'm having issues getting my GBA cias to work. When I launch them I get an error and need to reboot the system. I tried installing the AGB_Firm cia into the SYSNAND but that didn't help, can someone give me a quick retard proof guide?

it doesnt change much.
the luma option forces games to use the extra power. normally the n3ds always runs at that clockspeed. games just dont take advantage of it.

probably fine, but it's always best to use a formatted card that's been checked for corruption just to rule it out in case anything goes wrong.

back up your data and then follow the guide.
its wiser to do it with a smaller sd card rather than a bigger one. things like nand backups will go faster that way. a minimum of 2gb sd is recommended due to the nand backup alone being 1.2GB big.
after that its just copy and paste if you want to move to another sd card.
keep in mind the sd card has to be fat 32 formated with 32 or 64k cluster size. also has to be mbr formated bootrecord if you plan to use a9lh from sd rather than ctrnand.

So you can't hold select, start or X? You probably forgot to install arm9.

If so, start from the start re-do everything to your SD card and when you get up to the step you are on now, see if it works.

By using outdated cfw like rxTools or cake. I had to looking hard for solutions online or even coming up with solution myself whenever I had a problem. That way I don't feel like an entitled piece of shit .

Why wouldn't you use Cakes? It still got NFIRM updates. It even supports 11.3.
You get FIRM protection, 3ds_injector/loader and AGB_FIRM+TWL_FIRM patching.

Actually if you install the ticket from Freeshop, it is available for redownload on the regular eShop. That only works on one 3DS though, and as far as I know you won't be able to redownload it from any other 3DS even if you enter your NNID.
