BMW 540i broken, need help

Hello Veeky Forums, haven't been on here in awhile

2 days ago, I sold my dd hyundai and bought a car i've dreamed of buying for awhile. I bought a 97 BMW 540i 6MT M sport with black leather and a bunch of mods.

Today, while I was pushing it, it goes into limp mode, so I pull over and check the spark plugs, cylinder #6's plug was completely loose. Checked the threads and theyre completely stripped.

How do I rethread the holes with a rethreading kit without fucking everything up? Does anybody have any experience with rethreading spark plug holes? Whats do you think about the BMW, good steal or money pit?

my experience is that you get someone else to do it, because you will probably fuck it up.

Nobody in my town works on BMW's. In Texas, mechanics specialize in domestics.
The select few that do charge an arm and a leg for it though.

Also whats the worst that can happen?

sexy car
really like the grey
but yea just take it to someone who knows what there doing is pretty much the only option

You're going to fuck up the engine, just tow it to a BMW dealer

Another broken BMW, figures.

>Whats do you think about the BMW, good steal or money pit?
Money pit but thats the nature of the beast.
>Drive, shit breaks, fix broken shit, eventually get tired of fixing broken shit, sell shitbox

At worst you are looking at a new cylinder head on that side.

Had a car sold to me by a dealer that had a helicoil on cylinder 3.
>A few years later decide to change plugs
>Helicoil came out with the spark plug
>WTF.jpg
>Spark plug was even a different size than the rest

>good steal
How would I know if it was a steal if you don't even tell me how much you paid for that pile of junk?

Pay a thread repair specialist to do it

How the fuck did the previous owner manage to strip the spark plug threads?

Get a mechanic to do it, shouldn't be any different from re threading them on an LS engine for example so I don't see why there would be a problem

>How the fuck did the previous owner manage to strip the spark plug threads?
By being a moron. OP, guess what, they same moron that stripped the threads probably worked on other parts of your car. Maybe the brakes. Maybe the suspension, who knows what surprises are in store for you.

This. It's a simple mechanical procedure, but it does take practice to get it right.

It doesn't take a BMW specialist to fit a helicoil. At worse, if the helicoil fails, you'll have to get a new head.

owners of old BMWs are too often incompetent retards who'll just abuse and neglect the car and then sell it before it blows up.

Bunch of tards in here OP, there is still hope. Look up helicoil.

More importantly, make sure to vacuum out that combustion chamber for any metal shards before and after installation. There's no need for new heads unless you fuck up the helicoil

Ignore these other posts, get a competent mechanic to re-thread the spark plug holes. It's a V8 so it's not hard to do. Be sure to take care of the timing chain guides, since they are plasitc and can fuck up your engine.

Enjoy your car, especially in manual. I'm very jealous of a manual 540i, sounds amazing and is pretty quick. Best of luck, my guy.

Bull fucking shit I know 3 BMW specialists in Houston alone

I already know you just can't afford BMW prices

$2500
Crossthreaded, when it started, if fucked up all the threads
Thank you my man! Any shop vac will work?
Appreciate it, it's the fastest car ive ever been in lol
Bought it in Houston, drove it back home to College Station and Cstat mechanics are pricks

A good machine shop should be able to help you rethread the head. Take it to a repair shop first but just to find out if that's an option.

wow your bmw is broken what a surprise

>college station
>not having a BMW mechanic to service the many daddy's girls that come through
Dallas here, you're a silly liar

Fuck buying bmw's used. Had one from 80000 - 120000 constant problems and the suspension went to shit at 95000.
Borrowing one to get around town right now with only 67000 and the suspension is shit and it makes an awful grinding noise when it turns over, Jesus.

Nothing quite as expensive as a cheap bmw.

haha
retard bought a bmw and it go boom

bmw tech here, youre going to have to helicoil the head. check all your plugs to make sure theyre torqued porperly.

the e39 is a very robust car, one of bmws best imo. as long as the engine is in good shape you wont have many problems. (timing chain tensioners are common on those engines)

ill lurk if you have any questions

Nice fucking job. You totalled your Shitduai and bought a very respectable German car that you proceeded to break within 2 days.

Please just keep buying Korean

Time for engine swap.

On the serious note re-threading is not a permanent fix, it will fail again, tested on different engine. Enjoy your post M20B25 bmw engine quality, son.

That's an E36 not an e32

that changes EVERYTHING

Any vacuum with a rubber hose adapter tip you can put in there and move around to get all the edges
