Why is it so FUCKING hard to find a head unit that doesn't look like FUCKING RICER SHIT and isn't ridiculously expensive.

It's a head unit, why does it matter what it looks like you fucking autist
>it's this thread again
inb4 that one knob solution faggot
Your photo is literally what you want. I don't get it.
>buy 2017 Tsuru
>throw Tsuru away
>keep radio
It's like $600
Because my current head unit is fucking ricer SHIT and it looks fucking disgusting.
Because I can't fucking find it anywhere.
I want this exact head unit. But you know what. You know FUCKING what.
I can't fucking buy it from their piece of shit website. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO! AND THEY DON'T EVEN SHOW THE FUCKING PRICE.
I literally just checked on Amazon and it's 316 USD.
sony.ca
Kinda does exist except it's a fuck ton expensive and not flush to the dash
Yes, I'm pretty sure it's meant to attract normies to replace their stock head unit.
Id like a simple black and white headunit. Nothing exists like that under $100
Do some Google and buy it off Amazon.de or ebay. I don't get why this is such a struggle.
Try finding an old used Nakamichi unit, they're decent but it sucks that they went off to a kinda ricey aesthetic nowadays
Okay so I found it on Amazon.de, fucking retarded how they don't put it on other Amazon websites.
Now, how the fuck can I make sure this thing will work on my car before I buy it?
It seems like only the Euro amazons have it. None of the NA ones carry it. Doesn't mean you can't buy it but shipping will be pricey.
Is it a single DIN? Look up a guide, really shouldn't be that complicated.
people would spend 10k on an install in the 80s when that was a years wages
stop being a jew
>continental-automotive.com
Seriously, they have the product number what there on the page. Just google search it
amazon.co.uk
>Doesn't ship to Australia
Fucking cunts.
Fuck if I know. All I know is my car is Japanese, and has space for either the single size or double sized head units.
same thing happened with the GAMER shit with PC's
Thank fuck there isnt such a thing as a GAMER phone so most of them are quite stylish.
Double din is those fuck huge units
Single din is those skinny units
If your car has a double din stock and you get a single din you can look for a single din adapter/frame thing to fit it in without looking too weird also most of them have a space for coins and receipts or you can go super poorfag and make one yourself
Mine looks like this. So is that a double din?
>No, my car isn't the GTR
AYY
If your head unit is exactly that size it's a single DIN. R34s can take a double DIN though, the second space is just a random plug Nissan put in for base model stereos.
Look up marine headunits or boat head units, same features, non ricey looks, same wiring harness splices and reasonable cost. That is what I did to my miata so it doesn't look like fucking tron is in my dash for some nig to steal
there we fucking go again.
first post best post
>Maximum USB capacity support is cap at 8 GB and best performance with songs not more than 500, and not exceeding 30 folders.
What a turd.
Clarion FZ102E
This, about as non-rice a you're going to get it. People who go "uuhhhh coloured screens are so rice kyskyskys" should kill they're selves. There are plenty of head-units like these that will look discreet enough on most cars after 1980.
OP here, I am really tempted to buy this.
How much would it cost to pay someone to install this thing because I am absolutely not risking fucking up anything in my car.
I really hate angry, helpless people who demand help so rudely
I know how to help you. Go fuck yourself stupid goddamn Australian. The world doesn't bend its knee to you.
>doesnt ship to Australia
Jaycar rebrands the exact headunit in the OP and its on their shelves
My VZ has one
I had to change the touchscreen unit the previous owner put in my ute
Because the way the rear glass is and with the unit so low all I could see was the screen in my rearview
>He doesn't know how to install a radio head unit
>Browses Veeky Forums
Fucking pleb
Why do we have this same exact thread everyday?
Will I have to ask nicely?
Will you help me out, pretty please?
Suck on my cock faggot. I'm the smarter man for not wanting to take risks.
There's a Jaycar not too far away from me, I'm gonna go check them out tomorrow. Thanks user.
>Installing a head unit
>Risks
You sound like a vagina
>jaycar.com.au
>no CD
REEEEEEEE!!!!!
Fuck off.
Thanks user.
>I'm the smarter man for not wanting to take risks.
I bet you don't tie your shoelaces yourself to avoid the risks.
Seconding the notion you're a vagina. Not even one of the nice ones, but nasty used high mileage beef curtains.
pee pee poo poo
Installing a radio yourself is really easy in most cars made before the late 2000s, usually just pop a small trim piece, four screws/bolts, slide in radio. Getting somebody else to do it is paying a $200+ stupidity tax.
You don't understand why these look "ricer"?
You know who makes these, right?
>not getting a comfy vintage blaupunkt tape deck and using one of those corded tapes to play your mp3s
Kill you're are self
>using one of those corded tapes
looks fucking shabby
>head units
>not just an aux/usb port in a black void
>maybe a bluetooth receiver and a phone mount
don't tell me you actually listen to the ad ridden propaganda the FCC turned radio into
Looks better than some gook-made unit. If you really care that much about wires get an FM transmitter. There is no reason to buy modern head units, they all look like shit and aren't made to last.
>physically connecting the device that holds your music to the car
If you use anything but CarPlay or Android Auto, I'm looking down on you.
>Using those car specific "apps" that will go as far as to stop you from doing shit without voice because they think the car is in motion
>Not just using generic aux/generic bluetooth audio and some vent/dash mount
>Looks better than some gook-made unit
just stop, both look equally shit
>implying your car and phone have compatible wireless charging systems
user after a long drive: "Did my GF call for a quickie? I don't know, my phone is dead, oh well, I don't have a GF anyways"
Aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
economy of scale
same reason computer cases with led fans and perspex windows are about 1/4 to 1/3 cheaper
>being stuck in 2015
>not having a usb, bluetooth, sd card cassette adapter
bow to your chinese overlords
I don't even want to think of how shitty the DAC is in that...
surely you agree that the type of scum who buy cassette adapters deserve what they get?
i have that exact one and man i tell ya, its a head unit and it fits in with my civic dash
Pioneer 7800BHS.
This garbage is ok simple USB, aux, cheap cd easy replace
Forgot pic of garbage.
It's like $60 you idiot
The Clarion FZ series are good looking units. I've had the FZ502 for a few years (as of advice from Veeky Forums) and it's a good multi media unit, although now I like the one you've posted...
Just buy another stock one.
marine decks are usually pretty not-ricey.
...
that looks okay
>DROK
it sounds like shit, but I'm okay with this.
would be great minus the pointless CD player
Wait, did these double in price since i last checked?
I like it. I particularly like the rotary dial control as well.
I've always wanted to use something like this. Is there one that has better quality than that cheapo 5W one? I'm fine with it being open like that, I just want better parts.
...
Most stock head units are low quality and lacking on features. My car only came with radio and CD stock, giving me no way to listen to music I like.
...
I'm in the same boat OP
This is what I'm leaning toward personally.
crutchfield.com
Just get a 2/4 channel proper car audio amp and hide it under the seat or something. Those ebay amps are only good for small indoor speakers. Keep in mind their also rated in china watts so divide by 2 or 3.
PROTIP
buy a marine head unit instead.
same form factor, same quality componentry as the automotive marketed ones, and usually much more basic in appearance while being just as functional
plus they're more water resistant...not that it should matter for a car
>discontinued
The only good advice so far... I think
I WANT TO TINKER WITH THOSE BUTTONS
IT'S SHIT
youtube.com
>buy old head unit
>adapt it to RCA
Problem solved
No tape adapter required
I know your pain. This was the best I could find on my budget and Amazon. I fucking hate the giant blue source button but it's not as bad as some early 2000's Pioneer head unit that I wanted as a teenager.
crutchfield.com
This and the sound quality is shit.
>Implying you can't just buy a $20 wireless charging cradle off Amazon/eBay
I like my JVC unit. Not too ricer-y and I can color change it to match the dash color.
Oops, it's actually Pioneer. Guess it shows how little I notice it. Old car had a JVC get them confused sometimes.
How about you people try to find me a decent 1.5 DIN radio?
Then use a bluetooth->rca then rca->old head unit
There's a way to adapt any head unit made to bluetooth, RCA, aux, or really anything without using a shitty tape or radio adapter, just takes a pinout diagram and basic electrical knowledge
>1.5 DIN
For what purpose?
Eh shut up faggit
Becuase maybe OP doesn't want to have an epileptic fit while driving?
If I buy the stock head unit then it'll be in Japanese.
80's General Motors.
>I want a new head unit
>but I don't want anything ricey
>I want something that looks basic
>but I don't want to pay out the nose in the name of "minimalism"
Then fucking stick with the stock radio. Or see if you can find a stock radio from another car that you really want. People who would go out of their way to track down and pay a high markup for a head unit that doesn't dare display more than numbers for "muh minimalism" remind me too much of all the minimalist PC fags on /v/ and /g/ who'd spend a hundred bucks (or more) on a monolithic case that doesn't even have buttons instead of getting a case that costs half that but has a blue LED fan (that can be removed).
The one pictured is 30w per channel
