ITT: redesigns that ruined your favorite cars

ITT: redesigns that ruined your favorite cars

Yes I have a box fetish

Fox bodies were an atrocity

Yo is that some kind of a weird modified Suzuki Vitara?

what were they thinking

Rebadged Vitara for the US market I suppose?

wrong

...

...

...

...

more than 20 years of perfection and then they release THIS shit.

>caring about the exterior this much

Literal fags all of you

I'd agree strictly about the non-threatening facelifts, but the foureyes look pretty good.

I agree its not as attractive as the old one but god its still a goddamn great car. Slap front splitter on, hardttop and some spoiler and it looks savage af. One of the cars that looks worse on pictures than in real life.

It's the Chevy Tracker, the disappointing and incapable replacement for off roading legend Geo Tracker

>implying the happy-go-lucky look doesn't fit the zippy nature of the car
>implying it doesn't look decent still
>implying the 20 wasn't a fat barge for MR2 standards and a laughable pretend-supercar

...

...

I dunno, my bro has the LWB XL7 and it's surprisingly capable even at stock height and with that poor breakover angle. All the hardware is there.

...

i can't believe nobody posted this

...

Not my favorite, but a shitty redesign that ruined the car.

Fuck I don't think I've seen this yet.

Those wheel arches are retarded. Looks like an old 30s Rolls Royce or something

The 2nd gen Suzuki Vitara is very capable offroad. You autists dislike it just because it doesn't look like a meme car.

This.

And all because Mitsubishi thought making the Eclipse good like its predecessors would cannibalize Evo sales.

Fucking sad world we live in. GM has proven time and again that no sales get cannibalized by anything, people either buy the car or they don't and that's it.

3G eclipse should have had a 4banger turbo and AWD...

If you want a truly meme-worthy Suzuki, look no further than the X-90 It may also be a capable off-roader but it does like you're off-roading in a Little Tykes car

It's like a Twingo and an AW11 had a baby that got adopted and raised by a Vitara.

yup :(

Mostly I just dislike it being a 2+2 and changing the front end to look "modern."
Z cars always had their own styling that always looked slightly outdated. Even the 240 looked a generation behind when it rolled out. The Z32 and Z34 are just cringe worthy styling. Z33 just looks too bland for it's own good. Hopefully the Z35 will bring it back to being a not-so-cringy eyecatcher.

>Hopefully the Z35 will bring it back to being a not-so-cringy eyecatcher

...

...

Removing the side blades was a mistake.

>GM has proven time and again that no sales get cannibalized by anything, people either buy the car or they don't and that's it.

Then why did the fiero have to go away user? I've always heard they got rid of it because it would have completed with the vette (and may have won, given the chance)

This. Fucking. Bullshit.

What in the fuck were they thinking?

>1st Gen F-body: Yenkos and TransAms Fuck Yea legend mode
>2nd Gen: fucking batmobile z28 camaro, bumblebee, bandit car, split bumper TA, turbo trans am ws6 and shaker intake fuck to the yea esé
>3rd Gen: the fuckin Knight Rider, T-tops, based IROCS, pop up lights and and that sexy camaro front clip
>4th gen: this ugly peice of shit catfish hatchback bullshit. At least the Ram hood TAs and honeycomb taillights looked dope

RIP Pontiac ;_;

What's your fucking problem with hatchbacks, nigger? Does a car have to be impractical to be cool?

they fucked the trans am in 79 hard. They used a few leftover 6.6 w72 engines at the beginning but most cars were shitty lower compression 403's then in 80 due to emmission restrictions the best engine was a 301 chevy

Just look at this disgusting shit. The camaro doesn't need all this fucking glass. This looks like the fucking canopy on the jet where Goose died. It's an Fbody if I wanted a fag hatch I'd buy a crx. The third gen was just the right amount. But this coupled with the catfish front just makes for an ugly ass car. The Transam still looks decent though and it's a hatch

I thought this thread was purely aesthetics? Otherwise shit son the whole second gen and 3rd gen f-bodies were shit with crossfire fuel injection, AIR systems, anemic 305s, EGR and all the other gay shit. Aesthetically 2nd and 3rd gen look good though

...

how does the front end of a 79-81 look good?

triggered.jpeg

So the Mustang II didn't ruin the Mustang image in your mind?

Both four eye and aero fox bodies aren't bad looking for their time. Convertible fox bodies are n't good looking but then again, all convertible stangs are no bueno.

How does it not?
>quad lights
>split bumper
>shaker intake
>front wheel spoiler
>hood scoop on the z28

>crossfire fuel injection
talking about trans ams
camaros still looked godly

...

>implying someone on the Toyota design team didn't literally draw a rectangle and go "this is the new MR2, make it a Miata."

I'll admit it though I'm a huge f-body fan boy so I'm biased as fuck. I like all of them except the 4th gen camaro. Own a 79 z28 and used to own a 84 firebird. Pops had an IROC and a Berlinetta back in the day too.

There was a thread not too long ago were almost everyone who drove and F-body realized that their old man drove some type of camaro/firebird back in the day, so we got one, and our kids will probably want one, and their kids will want one etc etc etc

Really? I think Audi is one of the few companies improving consistently design-wise since the 90s

this
the new Civic face is cringy as fuck

This takes the cake

How would a redesign ruin my favorite car? That makes no sense. My favorite car is unchanged.

Same my dad is a big pontiac guy bought fixed and resold gtos trans ams, firebirds all the time. never really payed any attention too it until I got older. He turned me into a major trans am fanboy through the years though.

My old man was trying to convince me to sell my 79 and buy something practical now that hes a sellout and drives a Nissan, but when I was telling him about my engine and tranny he let slip that he had a Foxbody cobra that he gutted out to be smog less bored out 302 with heads pistons cam crank headers dual exhaust and running a 4barrell carb mated to a 3 speed manual that he would hoon around in before we were all born, then quickly remembered he was trying to "talk sense to me" and changed the subject to how reliable corollas are lol

Pic related, grainy shit quality screen shot of my old man with his Berlinetta and me with my firebird like 30 years later

My father would never drive a car that wasn't GM. He also refuses to drive "civilian" cars even though he is in his 70's
nice 82 famo

I don't really like Hyundai and this would be considered the only car I'd ever get from them but the fuck are you guys doing? You had it and now it's left the building.
Agreed, especially with the facelift Sti
They dun fucked up, now the Civic looks like an accord. Not even a Civic anymore

...

I don't hate it and I'd own one if I could afford it but it's easily the worst looking Evo.

It was a 84, blew the engine up on it the day I was gonna trade it to a fellow Veeky Forumstist for a Honda

Please tell me that's actually supposed to be a Juke.

no one bought then and got the cucked brz instead

Is your dad Nikola Tesla

I agree with this. It isn't a bad looking car, but all of the Evos before it look much better than the Evo X.

The reveal contained many references to Nissan's rally 240Z, their first "crossover".

I wish I was kidding.

Fucking current gen chevy tahoes reeee

I'm gonna go crash my A32 Maxima into the nearest R35 GT-R doing 160 mphat 8000 rpm. If I managed to survive I'll replace my heart with a RB26DETT and try again on foot. If I survive that I'll take a plane to Fukushima load up on irradiated crap, go to France and dirty bomb Renault headquarters in a brand new Murano.

If I survive that, I'll retire to Africa and tranny swap new Datsuns from CVTs to MTs for free.

I knew I was gonna see this, i have a 2011 rn. Went to the dealer and looked at the 2018, side by side the 2018 looks like its from the future compared to the older A5's. Its insanely nice on the inside. I told a dealer I really didnt like the way it looks, but he kept insisting its a very hot style and as we see more Audi's go in this direction it will warm up on people, he claims that this is a really bold step for them to be taking. It also drives better than my old one.
I still love the old style however and if I had the choice I would buy the new one and put my old one away for special occasions just because I love the style, but its lacking on comfort (it was a pretty basic model).

Dunno about Audi, but E60 definitely was a step backwards, as well as E90.

>GM has proven time and again that no sales get cannibalized by anything, people either buy the car or they don't and that's it.
Pontiac Banshee says hi, as does the entire Pontiac/Buick/Oldsmobile relationship of cannibalizing each others' sales because they were all meant to take the same market segment, and then cannibalizing sales from the other GM divisions when they started making cars cheaper, faster, and/or more luxurious than Chevy and Cadillac.

Oh and don't forget Saturn, many of whose buyers had formerly owned other GM cars and were now buying Saturns instead of the 'normal' GM cars which by that point had become a fleet of beige-colored rebadged sedans.

Probably a few things on the styling id change otherwise this Redesign couldn't have gotten me more erect. Truly outdid yourself Honda. I hope it gets lots of aftermarket love in terms of engine tuning.

Power of dreams~

And that is because dealers demanded it....

Dealers and dealer associations drive the whole "product cannibalization" meme by influencing products.

I actually like the 7th gen
bug eye was uglier

THIS! The first gen looked amazing

...

These are barely any difference looks wise from the xD. Toyota really didn't give Scion a chance.

Misfire injection wasn't introduced until 1982

...

fuck you Turbo Ks are awesome

No they got rid of it cause people were buying the mr2 instead because it was an all around better car

Are the engines mounted on the wings?

5th gen 4Runner is best gen 4Runner

The interior is nice though.

Puked a little bit while downloading this

>perfection

I love replacing gaskets :^]

Both the 4th gen Camaro and Firebird looked great before the fishface and nostril facelifts though

...

wasnt a redesign. was blank sheet of what toyota thought american coupes should look like. great engine(3UZFE), ugly body.

>We want the Porsche market

>"They are just stupid Americans, so they don't get the Hatchback"

>not liking suicide doors.
I also wouldn't call the RX-8 a redesign, it was a successor on a whole new platform.

My vote is pic related, every time I see a newer Tundra in person I get the feeling like it hit a wall head on and scrunched its front in too much. Its' proportions just seen off.
