nope, my guess is you're very unfamiliar with the profession and what industries pay the salaries you think I should make.

none of my colleagues with similar years of experience, even the one from halliburton, made close to what you apparently think a ChE makes. starting salaries were high 50's to low 60's when I graduated... came from a top ten engineering school from the US Big 10.

they can, but most fresh grads turn tail when they see what it actually takes to make that kind of money.

now that's accurate. since my wife works as well as mech engineer I'm not looking for those type of jobs. I'm a project engineer for a chemical facility working around 40-45hr/week. if I come in during a weekend I get comp time.

the job isn't easy though. currently at the end of the installation phase of a new process Ive been in charge of designing and installing, acting as the GC as well. only engineering work I couldn't legally do was the structural work since I'm not a licensed SE and ChE schooling doesnt focus on such material.

i dunno guys you tell me

the reason i ask is because i'm doing a phd that is pretty much chemical engineering, but the degree is in mechanical engineering. the offers people from my lab have been getting were in the 80-90k range and entry positions for phd holders are generally considered lower paying vs having the same amount of years of experience in industry as you spent on the phd.

field service positions are considered the lowest of the low, so that is hardly surprising. in one of the jobs i applied for everyone that i checked on linkedin had their bachelors degrees from shit like devry or itt. instead of giving me an offer for the full position they tried to put me in a "temporary" intern position that's the same as the full time position except that it paid $19/hour.

in all honestly, if i were a fresh grad i would have probably taken it. the problem was that at that time i had 2 years of grad courses completed plus the work i was doing for those 2 years heavily overlapped with the position requirements. a position, mind you, that allegedly required no experience yet they tried to force me into an internship to save money.

I'm living the shitbox dreams. I mean it could be worse, if it wasn't for my autistic car/bike hobby I'd be a permanent NEET loser. I have no debt and low expenses ($300/mo in insurance, $300/mo garage rent, $200-400/mo in house rent to parents) so it's good in the short term but I REALLY REALLY feel I should get a career. At the rate I'm going I'm not graduating college until I'm 27-28. I took a few civil service tests too so I'll try that route worst case (train conductor, two police tests).
