At what point do you put down an old shitbox?

At what point do you put down an old shitbox?

when the first rust repairs have failed. when i saw my 3/16 rocker panels had rusted through i gave up and sold the car.

When you start looking at other cars over the cost of fixing it.

i would like to know this too.

i have a car that im in between fixing and selling or just scrapping. car hasnt ran for 2 years at this point.

Wiring issues and a bad fuel pump, its also a car that has practically no value

the point where all the $300 repairs start adding up

When it isn't an Veeky Forums approved meme car.

What is it? How bad is the rust?

never because I don't buy shitboxes since i'm not a poorfag who can't afford a nice car.

t. Richfag with a Mercedes

no rust well other than the passenger fender that got smashed to shit when i murdered a cow.

thats part of why i dont know if i should bother, since the hood is all wrinkled and the fender is bent to shit

its a 99 plymouth breeze.

Its only redeeming feature is the dohc 2.4

I mean, if you like it go for it. Fuel pumps aren't too hard. Bad wiring can usually be pinpointed down to specific areas, such as doors or trunks.

fuck man didn't you hit that cow years ago? scrap that turd

When the costs of parts and repairs each month is the same as the lease on a new vehicle

I have a 2004 wrx

it's my first car. please tell me this will last the rest of my life if I don't speed or hoon.l and keep up with the maintenance.

I don't live in a place where it snows

im debating that m8.

right now its between getting it running, and using it as autox slut, fixing it to sell and buy a better car for a project, or just pulling the engine and tires off and scrapping it

just buy headgaskets in bulk

You are retarded

If you take care of it, it'll probably run for a good while, but being a WRX it's probably been abused in the past and will eventually give up.

But more importantly, why would you get a WRX if you don't speed, hoon, or use the 4WD? How is it any better than a 3k civic at that point?

Just get it running at all and you'll get a lot more for it than you would for scrap. 800-1000 for a running shitter is much better than 200 for the metal.

>volvo 240 shitbox
>keep waiting for it to blow up so I can upgrade
>brakes squeek
>drive train makes pod racer noises
>steering sticks when turning because fucked suspension
>4th gear doesn't kick in the first time until 100 k's
>battery jerry rigged with a kill switch because it has a drain
>pulls to the right
>muffler fell off months ago
>clear coat peeling off all over
>drive it to work every day and do bag deliveries in it at an average of 2000 kilometers a month
>IT KEEPS FUCKING STARTING AND RUNNING
>HAD IT FOR 2 YEARS NOW

When the transmission in my subaru started slipping I gave it a Viking funeral. It would be more to repair than its worth. Stripped it down to a bare shell and scrapped it. Now Im selling the parts to help 100 other suabrus stay on the road.

When the repairs go past what the car is worth and/or you get in an accident

>Now Im selling the parts to help 100 other suabrus stay on the road.

aaaawwwwwwwww that brought a tear to my eye

I have an 02' Golf TDI, it runs pretty well but it needs almost 5k ion repairs(nothing needing immediate attention). The only reason I got this was because my 05 accords trans started slipping and needed a complete overhaul and the value of that was more than the cost of the golf. I'm not sure how long it will last since it's such an old car but it's running well, just an annoying ass chirp in the serpentine belt or one of those pulleys. I probably should've just either kept my accord or got a Civic or Camry to be honest.

pic of the golf engine

When it rusts if you're a fag from the rust belt. Never if you're from anywhere else, unless you crash it. Mechanical problems are always worth fixing.

t. civic owner that's spent 5k over 3 years fixing a civic for 2500. 2600 was from spinning out into a ditch though

It just wants to make you happy is all.

leather? manual?

No it's an auto, i need to learn how to drive stick one of these days. Also it's cloth, it's the GL base model. Even has manual window cranks.

When the poor SOB who has to the oil change on your POS jeep liberty, refuses to ever work on it again because the bushings that hold the rear subframe and axle look like this.

Also the dash looked like a Xmas tree, the P/R tire was from 2005, both front wheels had play, serpentine belt was cracked etc...

when it's rusted to shit

Major accident or terminal frame rust.

Possibly blown engine/trans if you're not capable or don't have the space/tools/time to replace it.
