Ideally you wait for the planes are clean up but people never do that. Generally they just rally forth strafe 3 artillery and get killed. and go on to the next one.

Later in the game more people tend to congregate down low though, so maybe early is better if only for the sake of bringing down 3 shitters in fighters to ground level.
