Some 7000lb lifts are surprisingly cheap and that scares me: any advice in buying one?

They are all probably going to be a little scary. We fabricated some braces for the top of this one(pic related) because sometimes it needs to lift a Dodge 2500 and the small foot print it has doesn't inspire confidence.

I don't know if I'd feel qualified to offer much advice but to do your own research and buy a little more than you need. They will spoil the hell out of you quickly.

The price difference between the 4000lb and 7000lb lifts is well worth the "insurance" that the 3000lb headroom gives, that's why I mentioned the 7000lbs.

Most I looked at were off-brand but I don't really know what makes a good brand.
