For Ford it was the Taurus, the first modern car they ever produced to compete with the threat of Japanese cars. It was fwd, unibody, fairly light, modest engine and unibody. I'm also a big fan of the hidden front air intake look.

More like pic related

Don't forget it was also a unibody.

Yea, early 90's
Then when they lost it again in the mid 90's

...

Nearly early every model since the LFA has been excellent as far as driving dynamics.

Save for obvious models made exclusively for comfort and volume sales, the ES and RX.

I'd say that 2011 was Hyundai's first year as a serious competitor in the market but it's just my opinion.

I hope this is a fucking joke.

IS-F came a bit earlier.

I know you're trolling, but badic bitches and normie cuckbois unironically think this way.

As for Lada, it's the Vesta. The Granta was not quite there yet and the X-Ray isn't out yet I think.

IS F was dogshit m8

Do not blaspheme against the godmasheen, infidel.

...

Why would it be? None of what he said was wrong

This, but the 2006 Sonata was a big step up and I believe their first produced in America.

t. 2006 Sonata owner

please leave

2006-07 sonatas were sleek and modern looking cars that do look good to this day and will continue to and came with a powerful v6. They are very pretty cars

meanwhile every other sonata looks like shit and the only engine option being a shitty 4 cylinder

Chrysler, with the town and country. It immediately lost its shit again ten seconds later, but for a moment it remembered how to sell cars without going broke.

I just say 2011 because nobody really thought about Hyundai at all until the 2011 "reboot" and their huge market/PR campaign. Some people didn't even know Hyundai existed before 2011.

the 2006 sonata made hyundai a real threat to honda and toyota

it was on the same level as the accord and camry while being cheaper

Maybe the cars weren't crap anymore after 2005, but in the market point of view, Hyundai wasn't much of a competitor until 2010-11.

Also, I wouldn't say the Sonata was equals to Accord and Camry. Maybe now, but not quite at 2006.

This is coming from a Korean by the way. Well maybe I'm biased because in Korea everyone has to drive a Hyundai/kia (or this weird recently-made samsung/renault brand) due to high import tariffs so I appreciate foreign cars more.

it did compete with them and it did some things better
>huge interior, it was basically considered a full size car
>massive trunk that is basically a small apartment
>powerful v6 with 0-60 time of around 6 seconds
>built in the USA
>very reliable

I dont want to seem like Im dick riding hyundai, but the 06 sonata was a very impressive car, especially coming from the biggest laughing stock in the car industry

Well the Toyota Corona was the subject of many jokes back in the early days. See how far Toyota has gone since. Hyundai is improving too.

Chinese cars are probably next on line in the future.

But he's unironically right. Porsche needed high volume, high margins vehicles to fund their cool shit. The Cayenne and the Macan are the reasons you can get 15 different flavors of 911.

>the threat of Japanese cars
what was the threat again? that we're all going to be driving cheap plastic fucking cuck shit?

it happened anyway. thanks, ford.

the taurus is still influencing shit today. fuckers.

Holy shit I never realized how it looks like an almost carbon fucking copy of the Accord from the same year

I feel the same way when the Sonata came out. I was pretty impressed.

not really.

pic related is what saved porsche.

Holy shit u r retard

should have bought a VW schwimmwagen instead

...

what are you smoking?

if you think they look the same, then you can argue they both look like the focus

The threat was that we were all going to drive sharp handling shitboxes with impressive HP/L and then speed limits would go up and make american muscle boats unusable on american roads

>a little japanese car beating a V6
nice fantasy, kek.

nah

arr shitboxes rook the same. Now shut up.

Always felt that the Lada = Niva.

2009 for Mercedes with W212.
I got so tired of the bug eye style mercs, this design was so refreshing.
It has this fucking road presence, completely outclassed bangle

lada never had their shit together and never will, dumbass

>Hyundaicuck rushes into action to defend his shitty brand

Everything before this car is overpriced garbage

just pointing out the accord looks like shit compared to the sonata

getting their shit together (right)

1/2

How sour are you? All I'm saying is that the 2007 Sonata is not a "carbon copy" of the 2007 Accord.

>Weebcuck rushes to defend Hondo with a shitty argument

Who are you? He replied to me. I'm not saying the Accord looks like shit just saying they don't look alike.

>See 2010 cayenne for 8 grand
Hey that's a good deal!
>Go in for the 60k tune up
>8 grand bill

Fund in terms of excess R&D cash or subsidize?

Toyota teaching Porsche how to do lean manufacturing saved Porsche. The Boxster bumped sales volumes way up, but started fading in 2002, when the Cayenne appeared and shot Porsche into the stratosphere. Now, the Cayenne and particularly the Macan are reasons why VWAG can still turn a profit. Without those and the Audi Q5, they'd be sunk.

>Toyota teaching Porsche how to do lean manufacturing saved Porsche.
Wow when did that happen?
So that means Porsche's nowadays are reliable like Toyota cars?

I totally agree with this.

...

...

I have this car. It's been good to me but there's rust on the rear passenger side fender and the suspension is squeaky in the winter. Also 126,000 miles.

I really fucking hate the fact auto makers don't make a base model or mid trim car with a V6. It's all 4 cylinder garbage, and if you want a V6 Camry or Accord you have to buy the top trim level.

Disco 3 with V8 was pretty reliable and a frigging tank offroad

Mid-90s. When Toyota's guys first visited Porsche's factory, they thought that it was just a garbage warehouse stuffed with subhumans clambering up and down shelves. Here's a good article: canakdeniz.co/lean-business-in-modern-automotive-manufacture-porsche/

>tfw a thread about my car
feels good
I thought people would just hate sonatas because it's a hyundai

The V6 Sonatas are cool

Too bad they're all 4 cylinder shit now

its sad too because that v6 engine they had were really good

0-60 in six seconds in a 3600 pound economy family sedan is very impressive

I dont care what people say about hyundai, I will always have respect for them for making this car
