The reason Morde has to build essentially full damage is because unlike champs like Darius who gets passsive Armor Pen and his disgustingly strong passive or Illaoi with her W being %Health damage and her tentacles having stupid high base damages, Morde has pretty averages bases and scaling outside of his Q, which is by far one of the hardest abilities to land consistently on competent enemies.

If he stops building damage he's no longer a relevant damage threat, and a champion that literally does NOTHING but damage not doing damage is the definition of useless.

I've been saying for ages he needs some sort of %MR Shred in his kit and some passive that grants him additional damage so that he can actually be built tanky after 1-2 damage items and be a relevant frontline threat instead of the pussyfooting he tends to have to do in teamfights if he's not stupidly ahead

lethality is just scaling armor pen. it's worse than arpen at low levels and better at higher levels. riot replaced all flat armor pen with lethality, but there's more lethality than there used to be arpen before.

er, equal to arpen at higher levels. what i meant was that, in total (accounting for the differing amount), it's worse than arpen at earlier levels and better at later levels.

no. there is no more flat armor pen. it's replaced by lethality, which is just a scaling version of armor pen that's worse at lower levels so that assassins don't snowbal as hard (this was literally riot's rationale, but they added so much lethality to everything that it didn't work out).

last whisper only works on bonus armor (from items and runes) and not base armor (that characters start with and that grows with level).

you buy lethality against people with no armor items and last whisper against people with armor items.

50 armor is very low. that's a lower level character with 0 armor items. you'd buy lethality against that.
