The survey leak from way back said there would be seven companions. We've seen six. But Bioware has also come out and said that one companion (a Salarian) was cut, so we don't know if there was originally eight and one was cut (so now we have seven as the survey said) or if there was seven cut down to six instead.

If you think about it could be right. Reversed engineered Reaper tech should have made the MW tech jump considerably. Just the ship drives alone would have made the MW faster than the pathfinders that were sent. Reaper FTL drives are 2-4 times as fast as anything the MW had. So even if the council took 100 years to get that working they could have sent a new expedition to Andromeda and it would have arrived centuries prior to the pathfinders. It's a major plot hole and the game hasn't even been released
