MFW i blew the manta's engine at the end of a track day (my fault, i had no oil temp gauge, only oil pressure, and i literally ran the car for 2 stints of 3 hours at full speed without stopping to let it cool)

now i need to find a cheap 2.0S engine (cant buy a 2.0E because i can't be fucked to change the head)

basically i'm looking for a plug and play engine i can just drop in. it might be easier to just buy a whole car (almost bought a commodore 2.0S last week but it was too clean to cut up...)

opel lyfe

are you planning to take the twingo to the burgerking this year again?

might take the twingo, might take the manta, might take something else as i have a few projects in mind (RHD new beetle, RHD clio RS, maybe a lexus GS or W140... also looking at merc 190s...)

>W140

lmao.
please. if you take a w140 to the ring, let someone take a photo of you sipping tea while going round the carousel

oh i will take one for sure as the W140 is my must have dream car (well, affordable dream car)

just not sure it'll be this year as the garage situation is not sorted yet and i can't leave german barges on the street

i have some experience hooning luxoyachts as i used to own an E38. i actually think they're as fun to drive fast as nimble sporty cars, different experience for sure but still hilarious. see amon oliver's videos on youtube to see what i mean

its owned by General Motors, hence by definition it cannot be great.

PSA is way better than GM

>1.6 THP 275hp
It's the same engine found on the mini, it was a PSA/BMW developed engine
I think PSA is going in the right direction

>its owned by General Motors
well, not anymore...

2B Manta? Don't know what kind of work you're willing to go through, but a redtop is a fairly easy swap, requires a few modifications but most of it bolts straight on, honestly you'd have an harder time finding the parts for the conversion than fitting them themselves.
Googling for redtop conversions should give you a good amount of info.

it's not the work that scares me, but the money it'll cost. i've researched the cost of a swap and even if i managed to get a good engine for relatively cheap (almost impossible here, you're better off buying a whole car) the whole thing would still cost me three times what i paid for the car. and then i'd need to upgrade the brakes and reinforce the chassis too. as both are at their limit with the current engine.

ATM i just want to get the car back to running condition so i can enjoy it this summer and do a few road rallies with it. i had just managed to get it MOT'd and fixed the brakes too... should have been more careful but i was having so much fun... oh well

In the grand scheme of things, PSA is better than General Motors. At least, PSA can make diesel engines that work without blowing their heads off.

Ahh, 1980's GM, hilarity ensures with diesels and that idiotic V8-6-4 system...

...

...

Yeah that's always a problem. A good c20xe will very rarely be cheap due to how popular it is for these kind of swaps. Still, project cars are and will always be money pits, even I am seeing the euros rack up for a Corsa Si that I pretend to restore as a small project. It will always be more of a labour of love than anything else.

>sold to bankrupt frogs
F

>tfw no Manta A with destroked Chebby 350 that revs to the fucking moon

>c20xe
You can harvest these from certain Daewoos.

Sadly the vast majority of Daewoos/Chevrolets in europe are 1.3 econoboxes. Opels are pretty much the only source of redtops here.

>People actually believe the french government is better than the American government

I won't stop laughing when opel becomes 100% rebranded Peugeot. At least GM cared enough about Opel's engineering to use their engines across the world.

autotrader.nl/auto/daewoo-nubira/1999/rotterdam/6p92g/daewoo-nubira-20/
Found a Nubira for 220 eurobucks. According to Wikipedia it's got an X20SED, so a 16-valve DOHC MPFI unit.

>autotrader.nl/auto/daewoo-nubira/1999/rotterdam/6p92g/daewoo-nubira-20/

>102pk
>408.423 km
>LPG

that's.... not a good donor car

but for 200 eurobucks it'd make a great car for going fishing, taking stuff to the dump and shit. would buy if i was NL

>At least GM cared enough about Opel's engineering to use their engines across the world.

That's the thing.
GM cared so much that they made sure to take every damn patent with them.

I don't even know what exactly Peugeot is buying.
Opel is nothing without its clever patents and smart heads.

Sadly the thing would have to pass inspection again if you wanted to use it on public roads, but yeah, it seems like a good beater.

I managed to find this one as well, Also uses an X20SED:
autowereld.nl/daewoo/leganza/2-0-cdx-aut-airco-22255292/details.html

Half the miles but over double the price.

they've said that opel will keep its R&D and they'll be working together with peugeot's R&D.

they also said they intend to keep opel's brand identity and keep producing full opel cars, not badge engineered peugeots

my personal opinion on the matter is: who gives a fuck ? modern opels were utter shit anyway, it can only get better from there. the real opel died in the early 90's with the calibra and omega A. maybe now they'll start making good cars again, or maybe not, but it certainly can't be worse than the piece of shit unreliable understeering plasticky pigs that we got until now

schadeautos.nl/en/disassembly/passenger cars/daewoo laganza 2-0/o/839384
schadeautos.nl/en/disassembly/passenger cars/daewoo laganza Blauw-Sloop-Onderdelen-Deur-Bumper-Motorkap/o/905688
And a couple of truly busted ones for good measure. These would be ideal parts cars.

>modern opels were utter shit anyway
While we're exchanging opinions here, mine is that the Insignia was actually a really great Opel after all those disappointing years. A friend of mine actually bought a 2011 Insignia wagon (diesel) and the thing didn't have any problem and still runs perfectly fine.

I'm not a fan of Opel but I give them credit where it's due and I actually really like the look of the new Insignia and it's damn good value for 25k euroshekels I think

Heh, never thought on that. Not familiar with the SED, but I know the c20xe and x20xe(v) are straight swaps between each other. Sadly there's way less info for the latter on mantas, don't know if the user can fit the conversion parts as easily as in the c20.

>that I pretend to restore

And only now I noticed I wanted to write "intend to restore"

Thanks autocorrect

Another option would be a Saab block, which would be hilarious. Just imagine a Manta powered by a torque monster B234R, spinning the wheels everywhere you go.

Watch your step on Saab blocks. Although somewhat popular on Opel swaps, most of them are not the same base. Iirc you need some mount fabrication and such.

Yeah, Saab blocks are a completely different engine family unless we're talking about the later Ecotec engines.

fuck, even just looking at that old GSE Monza brings back so many memories

you mean the stolen saab 9-5 ? yes its a good opel

So, by Veeky Forums logic, is Opel French car company now?

Captcha: Peugeot

...

Depends on where they will be designed and built in the future. I hope they keep their factory in Eisenach because I really like the Adam (not to drive but they look neat in traffic).

SAMMY SAMMY SHARP LEFT, LISTEN TO ME

The stolen saab 9-5 that would have never existed with out GM money and Opel engines.

Yeah great car.

>I don't even know what exactly Peugeot is buying.
Clearing off pension debts for upcoming merger with GM.

i heard you liked monza GSEs

this one was found a few years ago by my friend and myself.

1 owner car, first owner was parisian, owned a few buildings in the center of paris including a multi level car park. that car just sat there and had an entire floor to itself in it for years and years.

absolutely immaculate inside and out, 0 rust.

we paid 2000 euros for it.

my friend's dad owns it today. it's still immaculate and sitting in a heated garage

Fuck that's cool

moar

interior

more opel porn. genuine 1979 kadett rallye barn find. we literally found this one in a barn. 1 owner car too. paid 1500 euros. this was my best friend's dream car and we're in the process of restoring it entirely.

of course it's a rallye 2.0E, not the 1.6

>tfw want to engine swap and RWD convert a Tigra but don't have the time

an interesting feature of this car: the engine doesn't have a serial number stamped on it. the place where it should have the serial is just blank. it's the correct original engine and has never been changed. even the opel specialists don't know what the fuck happened. maybe the factory forgot to stamp this one

user please. My pants are getting kinda tight.

current state of the car.

chassis is sandblasted, currently in the process of rebuilding the axles/running gear. everything will be restored to immaculate stock form. the goal is to have a factory brand new car, down to the engine bay stickers and tires (which is better than a restomod IMO, try to find one that hasn't been fucked with in some way)

That's pretty dope.

I wonder what will GM do with Holden now that they sold the Opel out.

Family collection of Opels couple years ago. Only the green one remains

Always in need of little touch ups

>PSA can make diesel engines

In the nineties yeah, the 1.6 hdi they put in most things now usually die at 100k miles like clockwork.

This is from either re-doing brakes or fuel line/exhaust overhaul

Still love it tho

>the aero mirrors

fucking great.

I was in need of another car when someone totalled my last one.

There was only a vectra b for sale nearby and I ended up buying it.

It was a 2.2 16v sri and it was a great car, I'll never understand how it got such bad press.

They look neat but are totally useless in anything but parking.

V6 is version is different beast compared to i4, mine is xe25 2.5. Suspension and brakes are totally different and have more in common with Saab 9-5 than i4 vectra

They are also driven so much and are poorly maintained.

my grandpa worked on the testing range. The rear axle broke while testing and they had to hid it from the press. In the end they made it so strong that a tractor couldn't even pull it apart.

I like mine better.

Nice Saab wheels! I too was thinking getting those rims for kek's this summer

What's Veeky Forums opinion on those ? I know they're not "real" Opels (like the Speedster) but they look appealing to me.

Opel never got rebadged Commodores and Monaros, sadly. Only Vauxhall did.

kek, who told you that?
They are all the same underneath apart from the beefier springs to cope with the v6 weight.

V8 VXR would be fucking neat, sadly none have ever been imported

looking through spare parts

At least on 95 2.5 spares can be either 9-5 parts or specifically 2.5 and in few cases 2L diesel parts

The springs probably, diesel and v6 weigh close enough to use the same ones.

I had a 308mm brake kit on mine which I suspect originated from saab. The 2.6 v6 vectras came with them as standard too.

Literally just change the disc and the caliper bracket. The caliper itself and the brake pads remain the same.

oh yeah it was front springs that were for diesel

Now that you talked about brakes, fuck pic related

Ha, yeah I remember that.

You can replace them without removing the fuel tank, but you will make a neater job of it without it there.

Yeah. Decided to remove fuel tank, had faulty fuel gauge so I had calculated 10L max in tank it was actually closer to 40.. fitting it back in was kind of hard.

Yes, I didn't regret removing mine until I tried to put it back in. If only I had known.
