The issue is that Im not comfortable driving a rare (in my town) car in a city of idiots and I feel kind of guilty racking up so many miles. I did find an EK hatch that runs for $500 and while she's not so pretty I bet I can wring every bit of life out of her until I can get some good jobs where I can afford something better. The issue is how much shit im going to get from my parents if I start driving around in a beater, even if I can fix it up myself. The engine is small and sips gas, the 5MT should still have plenty of life, and parts are plentiful and cheap, right?

TLDR: EK hatch with 180,000km ODO, cosmetic issues, exhaust manifold/gasket leak, running, as my dd beater until money comes in. Parents will give me shit. however, despite their negativity, it's easy and cheap to run and work on, right?

I'd do it. D16s are built to eat the miles. I've only done a head gasket and timing belt on mine in the 60k+ miles I've done on it.

I can't say since my uncle did it for free. I did watch most of it, though. If it needed to be done again, I think I could pull it off. I would get help from a friend, though. The head is pretty heavy as far as I know.
