Teaching family member to drive stick

>teaching family member to drive stick
>they downshift from 5th into 2nd

Testing out the ol' engine braking technique I see. :^))

TFW second is good all the way to 62mph

why the FUCK would you let an absolute beginner go to speeds that would require going into 5th gear in the first place?

seems like you as an "instructor" have to learn quite a lot also

>cruisin at night
>have squad in car
>eating a burger so told buddy to shift gears
>he's doing fine
>"put it in 5th"
>see him put it in 1st
>pull over and smack him with burger

>cant stick and eat at the same time

>accidentally "money shift" from 5th to 3rd on highway at 80 MPH
>went to downshift, realized I wouldn't have to, missed 5th because close ratio and rarely use it
>RPMS hit 7200
>redline is 8k

I could have done it myself, but that wouldn't be as fun. Squad night out, user.

you right, I'd probably do the same, including burger slapping him

>Wow, it's fucking nothing.

>riding motorcycle after a long day at the farm
>brain in la la land
>went to get off the freeway
>forget i'm not driving tractor
>go full retard and stomp on the gear shift like it's a tractor clutch instead of pulling in the lever
>bike goes from 6th to 3rd
>almost fly over the handlebars on decel

good times

Ive eaten 20 pc nuggets w barbecue sauce while rolling a blunt then smoking it in 5pm o clock highway driving and traffic and while at 80+mph. You suck

you tryna get burger smacked? I got bare jr. chickens up in here

>Over the bars
I've done that on an /n/ bike. Not a good feeling.

If you can already drive an automatic, there's really not much to gaining speed and hitting 5th in a manual. I hit 5th the first time I drove one, but we were also in the middle of nowhere.

Or breaking in this case

I don't know if it's just my car in particular (1990 MX-5) but it's virtually impossible to accidentally put it in 1st gear while the car is moving. There is significant resistance on the gear...the only time there isn't is when I am stopped or almost stopped...same for reverse. Unless my MX-5 is more advanced than yours, I am calling bullshit on this story.

Engine breaking is the only way to go. Save dem breaks for when you need em.

Brakes, bud.

my bad friendo

Fucking jesus how hard can this be
You let go of the stick and the springs inside center it. Move it down and you're in fourth.
WOW SO HARD

Now i know why americans hate manuals.
