>is a jackhammer better than a bagger 288 or should i use a paintbrush? Pick the right tool for the job.
Ayden Taylor
What do you want to do? UE4 is technically better but it's more complicated and kinda bloated, blueprints are easy to start with but a project can easily get unmanageable if you don't know what the fuck you are doing.
It's easier to get good results in Unity but the skill ceiling is lower.
I don't really know about Godot, it's relatively new and still in active development, I would prefer Unity over it since it's more "settled".
Jose Campbell
Why is it called rush hour jam with a photo of the movie rush hour when the theme has nothing to do with rushing hours or rush hour the movie?
Brandon Carter
>when he says he uses blueprints in UE4
Hudson Johnson
POST LOLI JAM IDEAS ...I mean, "rush hour jam" I deas.
Thomas Sullivan
Excusable if you have a good game to show for it. Like Wynn Dixie dev.
Liam Jones
>What's a good way to get new ideas? It feels like I'm stuck and just thinking of the same ideas over and over again. Entering a jam can help, if the theme restricts you enough to might think of something interesting. You could also try making games from genres you almost never play. For example I never play tower defense games, but I made one and got some ideas from it. Basically it makes you think of things your brain doesn't normally think of.
Samuel Williams
it isn't really obvious that she's in front of a computer
Noah Brown
Can someone post a link to the video of the fiverr girls saying shit like "just like make game" and all that
Blake Miller
If you can't get any good idea on your own, you should just acknowledge you'll never be anything more than a code monkey for somebody else's dream.
Luis Turner
>the theme has nothing to do with rush hour the movie? Just how the movie took an afroamerican comedian and a chinese martial arts expert and made them work together, you take two unrelated genres and make them work together. Also "Take two unrelated game genres and make them work together jam" was too long
Henry Hughes
You have asked this in at least the last three threads. Literally wasting days on something you could have googled in 5 seconds.
Ian Diaz
>blueprints can be converted into c++ >literally no disadvantageous to using them

I'd rather use blueprints and dev than not use them and nodev.

I'm not into cripple porn, sorry.
Thomas Martinez
This jam is stupid, it's way too broad. At least with a theme you would think "what kind if game I can make that fits the theme?" Now it's "What kind of game I can make that combines two genres that I also have to come up with?"
Ryan Hernandez
your game is super cool looking, i love it
Brayden Robinson

This kind of post makes me think agdg just doesn't want to have fun jams.

>fun jam >doesn't have a theme What's the point then? Just make your own game.
Oliver Price
Loli jam would be fun
Owen Nelson
Just nodevs being nodevs, they clearly aren't interested in anything related to having fun while making the game. They just vote for wathever they want to play at the moment.
Nicholas Cruz
If you can't come up with a loli jam idea that's not disgusting to you, you're just a bad dev with no creativity
Chase Jones
>waah I can't make a generic platformer and just change the sprites to fill the theme, this jam requires creativity delete it

I can, I'll just make a fun game and download a loli off google and paste it in the game. That doesn't make the jam idea not shit
Christian Young
You're uncreative. Checkmate.
Parker Ramirez
I don't really care about the disgustiness of the theme but I just don't care about making a game about little girls.
Mason Clark
>can't mix two genres >calls anyone uncreative >"Checkmate" lmao
Jordan Sanchez
>the jam theme isn't shit, you're just uncreative! let's hear your ideas then
Dylan Richardson
Bad devs focus on creativity Good devs focus on delivering
To reiterate the rules: >you give votes to options you don't like
>at the end of the poll, 50% of the highest voted options are removed
>if unsure about whether to remove an option or not when making a new round (for example, an option has the same amount of votes like the last included one's) then include it.
>rinse and repeat until only 1 option is left - that will be the next jam theme
-------------------------------
The jam that already ended and from which the current poll's themes were derived from: poal.me/atjauf

t. the guy that can't come with his own theme for a game.
Nolan Russell
The point of game jams is usually to give inspiration to those who want to make a game but don't have the creativity to whip up a "good" idea.
What is the point of joining a jam when it is essentially "Game Jam Jam! Make a game! Have fun!". Like fuck, if I wanted to literally just make any old game without direction, I wouldn't be looking at jams in the first place.
gets it
Brandon Thomas
>can't make an original game with a loli in it >calls others uncreative lmao
Nicholas Allen
in UE4 anim graphs, how can you set up a 'Any State' Transition like in Unity? I need it for a take damage animation, and I don't want to draw transition lines for every single animation. You can't transition between state machines as far as I know. And the "blend by bool" node does not work, because that blends instead of transitioning which means anim notifies still fire which fucks everything up.
Does UE4 seriously not have a 'Any State' Transition?
Asher Baker
>The point of game jams is usually to give inspiration to those who want to make a game but don't have the creativity to whip up a "good" idea. Your opinion. For me the best part of a jam is making something new, a challenge. Because that's what I enjoy when making games, trying new stuff, learning stuff, doing something out of my comfort zone. Go join loli jam, and I will join rush hour jam. Join both of them if you want. Problem solved.
Sebastian Sullivan
see >The point of game jams is usually to give inspiration to those who want to make a game but don't have the creativity to whip up a "good" idea. Exactly, combining two genres would help people get "good" ideas like patapon, or crypt of the necrodancer.
>What is the point of joining a jam when it is essentially "Game Jam Jam! Make a game! Have fun!". >Like fuck, if I wanted to literally just make any old game without direction, I wouldn't be looking at jams in the first place. Exactly, there's no point. That's why shit themes like "make a game but make sure to have a character in it" are shit.
> gets it wait, you lost me
Ian Davis
When I saw the picture I hoped we were doing a movie related jam. Like a challenge to make a shitty box office movie game.
Imagine a rush hour rpg that's just an abridged version of the movie with hilarious stats and quotes from the movie. Or just a mash up of different iconic scenes but each is its on genre of game. Like the eiffel tower scene is platform beat em up and there's like a frogger car part i don't fucking know maybe a sex game part when you try to fuck that assassin girl but have to pass qtes blah blah blah either way that'd be way more fun than this shit maybe pick an easier movie
Connor Evans
You're retarded.
Gavin Parker
or pick a tv show and we try to recreate our personal favorite episode as a video game
i'd have a fun time turning an episode of always sunny into a video game

shit we could even abandon the original script like game's set in a cinamic universe of the jams choice man like imagine a short rpg set in the world of the invention of lying, fucking hilarious
Jordan Cooper
Nice argument, man.
Nathan Sanders
space jam game anyone?
Hudson Rodriguez
Thanks. The whole idea of "hurr I'll take a game and stick the theme of the jam in it" is a meme and it's pretty much never been done.
Jordan Bell
The purpose of a game jam is to challenge the participants. The theme of the jam serves as a limitation, challenging participants to work around it. The reason loli (and most "thematic" themes that are unrelated to programming) doesn't work well is because it doesn't limit you. You can take any existing game, stick a loli in it, and if fits the theme. Since the theme is not limiting, it is not challenging. A platformer with a loli protagonist fits the theme. A shooter with a loli protagonist fits the theme. Tetris with the blocks being lolis fit the theme. Telling people to "just be creative" is a poor excuse. It is like a racing track where the finish line is 1 meter away from the start. People would complain that it's too easy and you just go forward. Telling racers to be creative would be retarded, just because someone did a 360 before crossing the finish line wouldn't make the race track better, it'd only be improved by actually making it longer and adding turns. The challenge should be the theme itself, not having a theme so broad that you have to create your own challenge around the theme.
Jacob Peterson
now thats more like it.
Adrian King
Look at it, agdg. This is what you could have had instead of threads full of shitposting about polls and lolis.

literally me, I slapped a skull sprite and haunted house sprite on my game and called it a halloween jam entry
Jordan Perry
>you can steal other people body textures
Benjamin Gutierrez
>wants everyone to agree on a jam theme >can't even agree on a reason to explain why a jam theme is not good

I agree with The mouse should have less of a lewd jumping pose, everything else looks pretty good though.
Brandon Sanchez
>4 examples out of 10+ jams we've had Wow you sure got me Also good job proving that they "took a random game and sticked the theme of the jam in it" instead of simply having an idea based on the theme.

Demo day is in less than two weeks. Let's just make a list of themes agdg wants and have everyone who submits a demo vote on them.
where are your games?

You know what? Even if that ass is the gayest thing I've ever seen, I also see that a lot of hard work went into that cover. It has a good composition, and it has that Drew Struzan kind of movie poster feel, where the image alone tells a story and gives you a promise that there's hell of an experience and adventure waiting for you. Astonishing work!

Is he pointing a fingergun in my direction?
Jose Thomas
Exactly my point against it. You can have a pong clone with a waifu and call it a day. Was it creative? Was it fun to make? Was it challenging to make? Can it be reskined and reused on another jam?
