The best generally available deal, at least on Sirius receivers (I know it's one company now) is 5 months for $25. Just say you'd like to keep the service but it's too expensive until they acquiesce.

there are circumstances where it's useful, but it's really not a needed luxury. the traffic channel in new york city saves my bacon once or twice a month (waze is generally great but every once in a while it's slow to pick up on the initial formation of traffic/clearing of existing traffic), but in most major metropolitan areas they eliminated traffic at the beginning of this year or consolidated into other channels. it can be useful for curated music discovery.

The bitrate is pretty piss poor by the nature of the tech and backwards compat with older receivers making it kind of shit for fidelity in music.

If I didn't get it for $5/mo I wouldn't have a Sirius sub, that's for sure. and without the utility of the traffic info I wouldn't either.

bluetooth wins for this reason. USB is less prone to interference and still steering wheel controls but compatibility/charging rate while using phone as GPS on many radios not enough power is supplied

if you have a nineties shitbox you're either rocking a tape adapter, an FM adapter, or you've replaced the stock radio in which case it'll probably have bluetooth too

they only started with aux inputs largely in the mid-2000s as MP3 players replaced CD players in popularity

Honestly, for the times I have heard sat radio, I still find the main 70s-90s stations too repetitive. They still play radio edits, they still censor certain songs. Its fuckin 2017, FM/AM radio should be ripped out of cars its old tec anyway. Who needs it? Stream shit or run an mp3 player.

Used to have Sirius/XM, stopped because the music stations all sucked, even in the genres I like, and the talk stations are full of ads - which weren't ever supposed to appear on the platform when I started subscribing years ago.

I don't mind Normond. I liked Pete Davidson on O&J, one of the few people after Ant left that could get little Jimmy into wheezy laugh mode.

The direction of the show also changed. He got more PC and became what he used to hate. Now he just wants to be Mr. A List celeb interviewer.

Don't subscribe to XM, then. Ozzy's Boneyard is okay, but its DJs have no idea what the fuck they're doing - I've heard Iron Maiden followed up by fucking Aerosmith on that station, seems like they just pull stuff out of their ass when deciding what song to play.

The heavier metal station (its name has changed so much I don't even remember what it was called when I cancelled my subscription) plays garbage 99.999% of the time. Like, discount-Five Finger Death Punch style of garbage. Octane or whatever is entirely for 90s alt-buttrock (and not even the good groups), with occasional Metallica thrown in approximately once a month.

XM is garbage. They'll never stop mailing you about it when you cancel. You'll also get phone calls from LaDasha Jefferson reading a script in a monotone voice, and if they hear you say anything negative they'll hang up and call again tomorrow from a different number or a hidden number.
