Can anyone explain why v8 engines sound so much louder than v6 engines? I have a v6 straight piped but my buddy has a v8 straight piped and its almost twice as loud. Do the extra 2 cylinders really make that much difference?

Engine design has more to do with loudness than number of cylinders.

But yes in general, you're getting more explosions per second in a V8 vs a V6

No 2 cylinders make no difference. Therefore applying inductive reasoning we may conclude that V8 is as good as V0. So, to summarize: get a horsecart.

4000rpm x 8 cylinders= 32,000 explosions a minute or 533 explosions a second

4000rpm x 6 cylinders = 24,000 explosions a minute or 400 explosions a second

133 explosions would make it louder yes, you fucking retard.

>muh engine sound

all 8 cylinders are not firing on every revolution.

slightly off topic from op but why are people so obsessed with sound
yeah turbo v6s sound sorta shitty but does that really matter when youre getting a ton of power?
the only sounds I care about are the ones that shouldn't be there

Umm, because a nice sounding engine is sexy as fuck you queer

Not everyone has a fast car, and fast cars are in the minority, so when you have a slow car, then that's all you can focus on.

OP here. If I'm racing I like hearing the unbridled engine roar but if I'm daily driving or going on a date I like a silky silence as I glide along the road.

I also like the sound don't get me wrong, but I would be perfectly content without it. Guess I'm just odd
fair point

Implying a turbo v6 is slow.

What did he mean by this?

Maybe some v8 engines have a fuel saving feature where they only fire certain cylinders at certain times. Some v6 engines only fire 4 cylinders sometimes to save fuel.

Don't you fuckwits know anything about two-stroke versus four-stroke engines?

Implying Veeky Forums actually knows anything about cars.

The very reason cars exist is to go fast.

Faster than walking, faster than a horse.

You have a fast car, just not necessarily as fast as faster cars.

Anyone that ever says cars arent for going fast needs a fuckin history lesson.

Ok children gather round and listen,.

Most car engines have what are called 4 stroke engines, One stroke is movement up or down a cylinder. Down to Suck, Up to compress, Down after the Bang, up to Blow out the exhaust.

2strokes=1 revolution, so you only have 1 explosion per four strokes. Meaning only half the cylinders are firing per revolution.

So 4 stokes are what you want for max performance?

If you want maximum performance, 2smokes are what you want, since they make a Power stroke every revolution.

However we all know that most two strokes are short lived and put a shitload of smokes.

>2 stroke car engine
what the fuck? is this a motorcycle thread? wait, no it isn't.

are you lost, little boy?

Stfu kid, the adults are talking here.

A shitload of smokes?

about what? your gay inline 2? (thanks for the link.)

...

2 stroke is diminishing returns for power. I could achieve similar results with a V6 which with odd firing gets a torque throw every inch of the shaft's revolution.

So 4 stroke is better..?

>thinks 2-stroke V6's don't exist.

No. "Diminishing returns"

And it's not the 4 stroke that's superior in my example. It's the geometry of the V6.

Oh shit. Please show me.

>You must wait 45 seconds.
Fuck Veeky Forums goldniggers.

look at this savage killmobile.

So these are boat engines, then? Interesting.

V8 sounds like a fuckin buzzsaw
