Eh, they're fine. If all you're doing is riding within cities they're easily more practical than even a geared 125 (DAT UNDER-SEAT STORAGE). If you start needing to go on unlimited A-roads and motorways I'd rather have a larger bike over a maxi-scooter, but I could see their appeal if you do a lot of longer journeys.

I'd say for cities scooters are better, if i needed a commuter are scooter would be ideal, but it's more of a toy for me right now.

I had a scooter for a couple months. DIDNT GIVE A FUCK.
jumped it on speed bumps and railroad tracks.
Cut across peoples yards.
Drove on the sidewalk.
Locked up the back brakes and slid it to a stop at lights.
Did wheelies.
Took it offloading.
Would drive it up a mountain then ride down at 60 mph scrapping the sides around turns.
Blow it up and fix it within hours.

Scooters are a lot more reliable than motorbikes, the CVT is a lot more rugged than a manual transmission and it's a lot easier to go over really strange and uneven terrain due to the low centre of gravity and the lack of clutch to worry about

I've owned a number of scooters for cruising around town, and riding to community college when I was younger. They're great.

In my state you don't need registration, insurance, anything for something 49cc and smaller. They're easy to maintain, repair, dismantle, etc. A fun little toy to just tinker with and ride around town.

I put a 70cc kit on one of mine awhile ago, and no one can tell the difference but adds a useable amount of power. Being able to ride comfortably at 45mph pretty much makes it perfect for anywhere in a standard city. I think the 70cc kit with upgraded intake and carb cost me a few hundred at most and made it the perfect commuter.

Every style of bike has its purpose. No need to sperg out because someone doesn't ride a liter bike.
