It's not a true combo and is completely techable, just keep trying different times if it doesn't feel smooth. The shove just applies enough stun to keep most people from R1ing your grab attempt.

Most characters require a reactive style at higher levels of play. Everything tends to deconstruct into a mindgame revolving around parrying and feints.
