The time travellers are trying to escape their loop and rescue the trapped people by sending their future past selves knowledge to prevent the disaster and retroactively stop themselves from going to the past to prevent it. Also, there's Christian undertones and Buddhist imagery involved, plus waifus. Somewhere.
