That's because american companies don't cater to markets that consume $500k cars. They are out to make money by volume and market on perceived value for the price spent.

As a company strategy it makes more sense long term money wise. There's simply not much room for growth when you are selling half a high (100k ++) dollar cars. That market is very limited.

GM took in 166.3 billion in revenue last year. Ferrari 3.1 billion.

Its not a question of could the Americans do it, but a should they. North america is more interested in making a ton of money than building mechanical pieces of art for a wealthy few.
