They are just a bit convoluted when compared to the others, which are all combine small guys into big guys. The concept was ok, implementation was wack.
I liked when xyz's cared about their materials and depended on them. Served as a limiter and another thematically binding layer. Xyz in some ways are kinda better synchros, which is lame. Adding vs multiplying is interesting as fuck, Utilizing levels (and types/attributes) in novel ways is what made ygo unique. What if synchros didn't need tuners? What if fusions didn't need *insert poly-derivative here*? These things have been explored, and I hope they keep doing it in ways that maintain the viability of each method.

Xyz are far more generic than Synchros though. You can slap some Links in any deck like how you can slap some Xyz in any deck that isn't Monarchs.

Most decks use Level 4s. You can put Xyz cards in most Synchro decks, but you can't put Synchro cards in most Xyz decks.

Sure that's cool, only that 3 minute rule does not exist in the real game. The most that can happen regarding that is calling out a player to a judge for stalling uselessly when he clearly can't do anything to change the situation in a tournament.
