The "N" specifically denotes completion of a certain special forces program within the Alliance military. It's not just meant to distinguish between military and civilians.

So I just beat ME2 as an Adept and I absolutely loved it, but I'm finding it kind of awkward to play in ME3. Everything is so much faster in ME3 and I'm finding that while I cast literally like 4x as many attacks, none of them feel as impactful.
Singularity feels odd, and my favorite combo was Pull, and then Throw to send them off a ledge or way into the sky but that doesn't work too well in 3, it just seems to make an explosion.
I'm planning on playing it a bit more to see how I feel but I'm actually considering restarting (I'm only an hour in) but I'm not sure what class I want to play, any suggestions?
I played Vanguard the first time I beat this game, and I'm playing on Insanity if it makes a difference. I was thinking maybe Soldier but I'm not sure how satisfying the shooting will be compared to 2.

Those explosions are your bread and butter, Adept becomes OP as fuck when you figure out everything that combos and what combos will do a ton of damage.
Sentinel. Liara's singularity + explosive punch destroys most ennemies while being hilarious. Explosive shield is baller too
Being Soldier is definitely not as satisfying as in 2. In 2 I'd go out of my way to use sniper rifles/shotguns, but they just don't have the same kick in 3.
That being said, shooting shit in slow mo is still very entertaining.

Yeah, they already feel pretty overpowered but they just aren't as fun to use as they were in ME2. In ME2 I'd pull someone 20 feet into the air and then throw them straight down into the ground 1 shotting them, or launching them 100 feet into the air. It was amazing.
This just feels like I'm a mage throwing out fireballs and shit making explosions, nothing interesting.
I just found an Assault Rifle and so far it feels really awkward. There's zero recoil and it looks like a toy. I spent quite a bit of ME2 using a Sniper after getting the Weapons Training and it was fantastic.

I'm just worried that Engineer will have the same problems that Adept is where nothing feels satisfying. The big explosions from comboing my biotics just feel weird and not very fun to use. I ended up sticking with the Matlock simply because it did the job without any of the avengers shitty aiming.
stick with adept, it's worth it. the explosions and damage get crazy and believe me it IS satisfying.
Engineer has more Utility via Cryo and Combat Drone so it offers more playability in that aspect. Overload and Incinerate are going to be your primary uses though.
Most combos will come off of Incinerate. I personally find the tech combos more satisfying visually and also because their original intention isn't to make someone fly like Throw so it makes more sense.
I think I might stick with Adept but there's a small part of me that really wants to try Infiltrator.
Engineer is going to have liberal use of both Overload and Incinerate but they have more interesting options imo through Sabotage, Combat Drone, Sentry Turret, Cryo Blast, etc.
