The amount wasn't the issue at all. The issue was that you have a consumable that gives effect 1+has a separate spawn rate AND another separate feature+separate spawn rate that gives the same effect 1. That's stupid and unnecessary given how much ?teles you already get per game. Spawn rate of ?teles were buffed as compensation but the point here is that the screenshot had an unbuffed spawn rate and yet he already has 33 (thirty-three). Even getting a surplus of 20 is already too much, this means that the ?tele spawn rate buff was completely unnecessary.

There are important differences in how they function though. Reading tele is affected by one mutation, and zapping tele is affected by a different one. Zapping tele also cannot be silenced. So removing wand of tele would not just be bloat removal, but a significant addition to danger.
Also they have already removed the most plentiful source of tele, the evocable ring. As much teleporting as you can eat for. If you were undead or know lich form, then infinite teleporting. So, they have already moved the number of teleports you can have from infinite to finite. That means they have already infinitely nerfed teleport. That means leave tele alone!

Stalker - was shitty thematically, now they just need to remove potions of draining and excise the last dregs All them Zealots - good riddance. Should get rid of Berserkers and Chaos Knights as well.
Replace Fireball with Iceblast - non change Remove wand of magic dart - redundant with flame Remove cold/fire/draining - why do we need every elemental damage type for bolt wands? Remove invis/haste/hw/tp - good, they were unnecessary crutches. Remove slowing - redundant with confusion, they serve the same purpose
Revamp evocables - Rods were stupid strong if you found them early. New evocables are much more balanced and less spammy.
Remove badpots - they just need to get rid of the last one. badpots were a bad idea and they only stuck around as long as they did because of Stalker
Almalgamated enchant weapon scrolls, removed curse item scrolls - enchant failure was stupid, curse item scrolls were largely meaningless. They should get rid of random uselessness as well.
remove racial weapons - again mostly meaningless flavour that rarely affected weapon choice.
removed spiked flails, ankus, and a couple redundant weapons. replaced random weapon names with slightly different numbers with genuine weapon type variation. sound good to me
What great sin have the devs actually committed? The game is more challenging, takes less, time, is more streamlined, has more real variation in weapons/spells, and is no less fair than it was in the past.

I'd say that the older game was tougher. Although, speaking of item destruction, I think that was one a thing that made wands of hw/tele/haste very valuable, that they were indestructable. Now that there's no item destruction, there is less reason for them to exist.
Another thought is that if they thought haste was too powerful (which it was) and they took out the spell, then they should just take out the charms school. What charms spell would someone want past XL10?

the ones that I play with that are different from the defaults you show there are: easy_id, easy_lore, ironman_quests, half_fixedarts, and turn off enable_virtues
However, half_fixedarts is more for when you've already seen and gotten sick of the standard artifacts. Virtues are flavorful and cute but really message spammy, which is why most turn them off. No_wilderness is good for a pure dungeon divey game but personally I like multiple dungeons and having an overworld, even if in the long run the game takes longer.

Using your brains = cheesy scummy playing. Scummy playing is not the same as no-brain playing, often it is the opposite. Teleporting in a bad situation is a no-brainer choice, but keeping a pet shadow imp from D5 to the end of Lair in order to grind animated corpses for TSO piety is not a no-brainer choice. Sadly, the devs took that away, shadow imps don't know animate corpse anymore. Keeping a pet adder through lair so that you can bottleneck a hydra behind it and keep the hydra raging in conjured flame while that poop adder bites at you was fun too, but the devs took that away when they made non-similar monsters able to swap places. Lots of summons shenanigans went out the window too.
Now the only way to play is brainlessly. Less and less shenanigans, just straight fights where your stats either match up or they don't.

What's wrong with stealing a rune in 2 teleports? With -cTele and other game factors considered, there were really only 2 runes that cTele was worth using to steal, the Lair runes.

eh the pet shadow imp piety farming specifically is definitely a no brainer once you figure it out or hear about it, in that it's just easier and better than not doing it. Cute trick that's neat to learn about? Absolutely. But once you know about it, there's no reason to not use it for every character able to benefit from it which in turn warps game play and balance.

It's pretty dangerous, yeah. Maybe less so since it's the only(?) extended branch where you can stairdance, but it still has dangerous moments.
If you can't quickly deal out a ton of damage to a wide range of enemies (via summons, AoE spells, invocations, or otherwise) then the difficulty ramps up pretty considerably. But, again, you can stairdance the most dangerous areas -- the first entrance to Tomb:2, the second entrance to Tomb:1, and the entrance to Tomb:3.

Maces crosstrain with Axes, so Axes are still good to use as main weapons. And Axes are great for dealing with popcorn.
But with 0 aptitude for both Axes and M&F, you might be better off with Maces, since they require less skill to get to mindelay.

not really. Mechanically it's about the same as *bands but has much more content. IF you've ever played any *bands it's not complex at all and you'll be able to clear stronghold within your first few characters.
