Spent Saturday tearing the XR650L down and getting it ready to go again. Took it out Sunday for a good hooning through some of the rainwater runoff canals around town.

Embarrassing, but it had been sitting for nearly a year. Ended up tearing the carb apart for a deep cleaning. New battery, new rear brake pads, and a new front tube. Still need to take it into a shop to get the stuck swingarm bolt driven out and replaced, probably will need new bearings too.

I'll die with this bike. It's perfect in every way at what it does. I'll probably add a dedicated street bike of some kind in the next couple of years, but this one stays forever. When the top end finally goes it's getting rebuilt with a 675cc 9:1 kit and a new carb.

Some dude recognized my GSX-R (he rode himself) and we started talking about bikes and it quickly became apparent that this guy was on some next level shit judging by the stories he was telling me. I guess some mechanic robbed him. Some other dude put the wrong chain on his bike. The chain snapped when he was doing 130 on the highway and shot a hole straight through his crank case. He somehow got 8 tickets in one day. Etc...

Guys. I just got back from my orientation at Uni and it really pushed me to look for a motorcycle. I have my license and can ride, and I want a motorcycle for going to and from classes and work in the area. My budget is 1500. I was thinking of a CM400t or rebel. Opinion on first real ride?
