The archon seems to be a genuine Kett, or maybe he's the last of a race that was boned.

Anyway I bet that's what ends up happening to Alec, he disappears and then later you find him in the process of being transformed.

Archon is Saren and was originally an Angaran but was infected by contact with The Scourge somehow. The Remnant are an old race that were wiped out by the Scourge.
