So four chapters into Binding Blade I noticed a disparity in the difficulty between it and the 3DS games. While I'm getting fucked by terrible growths, the game hasn't been so abhorrent in its map design or unit efficacy just yet; there's a fair degree of challenge and every unit seems useful starting off. Whereas the latter two games seem designed in such a way that you're immediately punished for any mistakes you make, and units are far 'squishier' and actually good units are few-and-far between and soon outclassed by more story-relevant characters.

Am I just a shitter and Binding Blade is easier than the 3DS titles?
