play a lot try different weapons frequently watch videos if that's your thing keep motion controls on, even if it feels weird
remember to take frequent breaks, the gamepad is heavy and RSI is not fun

Me. Missing out on launch and updates was my biggest regret when I finally bought Splatoon last February. I held off because the Wii U had a shitty reputation and price, the Switch seems to be doing at least a little bit better in that regard.
