When no version of the original exists

When you make it yourself, actually do a good job, use a base car that at least halfway makes sense, and don't try to sell it as an original.

Then again, if you have the skills to make a car that 90% resembles another, why bother making a replica of anything? Make something completely new. Shit, half the stupid Beetle kit cars were their own design that only drew inspiration from others, and most of those are pretty fucking cool.

When the original has been a kit car anyway. It really doesn't make a difference whether your buggy is an actual Manx or a later, almost identical model on the same platform.

Replicating classic exotics with the wrong body proportions and wrong engines is horse shit for posers though.

At the very most I'd accept a replica on a platform from the same manufacturer, for example a C-Type replica around a later Jaguar straight six engine and chassis so that there's at least somewhat of a relation to the original.
