Mid is supossed to be the "play maker", nowadays we have dedicated roamers but mid is supossed to rotate when necessesary to disrupt or help the other lanes, yes he is mainly focused on his own farm but unlike what autists seem to think rotating ain't that bad specially if you're not doing well, a good gank can make up for your lack of farm, however if you are freefarming it might be better to just keep gaining at advantage rather than try to gank.

It's too common that the enemy mid is actually winning but then they leave the lane and I catch-up while they just lose time, best case scenario their gank is successfull but it's not worth it unless the lane you're ganking is getting completely destroyed, also you risk the enemy mid using a TP to join the fight and turn it around.

Mid to lategame depends on the hero but you're most likely making space for the carry to finish his shit or trying to catch some hero out of position or shit like that.

Doable if you're ACTUALLY good at hooking. I'd say worst games for pudge are the ones where you can land a hook and it will amount to absolutely nothing/make things potentially worse
