Before LR came out, I genuinely thought Noel and Caius were going to turn out to be the same person caught in some endless time loop where he gives the Heart of Chaos to himself then gets tossed back in time, sort of like Soul Reaver. I'm still convinced they at least toyed with the idea, or maybe all those scenes and shots in XIII-2 where Noel looks like he's going to grab Caius' sword or they have one in the foreground and the other in the background and you can see their incredibly similar features side by side, and the Spacetime Guardian DLC costume Noel got were just hinting that he could have become another Caius but he rejected it.
