They won't use their own servers. In order to have p2p, you must have your own servers acting as bridge between PSN/Steam like SFV does. And having your own servers is hard and difficult and costly. You can go cheap but then you end up with SFV.
Honestly, I prefer this over what SFV gave us in terms of crossplay. If PC Tekken is alive as PC MKXL, then there shouldnt' be issues finding matches.

I clarified hereCapcom uses their own servers for profiles and matchmaking. Bamco won't do that. They'll rely entirely on PSN/Steamworks for matchmaking, therefore the game is entirely P2P on Bamco's part as they don't need to pay for any servers.
Also worth mentioning that both SFV and T7 are peer-to-peer in the actual game. Only the matchmaking needs a dedicated server.
Yes, PS4-Xbone crossplay will never ever happen. And PC-PS4 crossplay only happens if the devs manage the servers themselves.

Why all fighting games in 3d have the back-to-back "canned character intro cinematic A, character intro cinematic B" when 2d games went as far as to have custom character intros and banter with sprites? Isn't it easier to make animations in 3d? What gives?
Well sure but SFV was the proof that crossplay isn't inherently better than the regular deal. Especially when your game is already mainstream and has 1k+ players online around the clock. The games that really do need crossplay will never get it due to the costs.
I'm pretty sure you can hop on MKXL online on PC and get much faster matchmaking with better netcode than SFV PC despite way less players.

Reminder that the only reason crossplay is expensive is that console manufacturers prevent regular P2P connections between console and PC.
Let the man enjoy his videogames and ass. I watched some of his videos. He's actually pretty chill about games. His BoTW stream was spot-on for so many things Nintendo had done wrong over the years. He was even shilling for Cemu despite Nintendo paying him to stream BoTW.
The best thing about crossplay is being able to play friends or other people you know who have the game on a different platform.
Crossplay is nice but it's not a dealbreaker. I'm more concerned if the game will actually be properly optimized and if the netplay will actually work well.
My best buddy has a PS4 only as he is studying abroad and he didnt bring his PC.

the in game trials are completely impractical but they do a great job of showing you what your character can do and what properties their moves have. its gets super easy from there.

You can learn the muscle memory for 90% of the basic combos in fighting games in 5 minutes, 15 tops if you are slow.

I bought two seasons worth of characters on it over paypal and it was all good.
