Cadillac finally started making decent cars about 3 years ago.

Buick is just Buick. They are a low end luxury line, like Cadillac Light or on par with Lincoln. They dont share many similarities with other GMs, not like there always being two models of every car with a different brand that comes out of GM. Not sure about under the hood and not sure how the last 10 years either.
