As long as the shoes are not too tight, that is good.
After that, I like stiff soles because that supports my foot without it being tired. The back of the heel rests on the floor as it presses the accelerator. So if I was using sandals, my foot would get more tired due to more muscles being used to hold it up within the sandals as well as a smaller part of the heel pressing on the textured floor mat surface. So, that's why I would never use sandals or bare feet. Bare feet aren't legal here anyways.
