Adept in ME2 was probably the worst class, but every class was viable. On Insanity most enemies had multiple layers of protections including barriers, armor, and shields. You could only use biotics when they were down to health and they were as good as dead anyway. The worst part of playing Adept in ME2 was having to depend on your team. You absolutely needed Miranda or Garrus for every mission because of Overload.
