So does anybody here has a young open source game people could contribute to?
Thomas James
That's like a painter letting people randomly scribble on his canvas while he's painting.
Benjamin Roberts
Me and my game have been talking about going open source but I just don't think I'm ready yet

Sorry I didn't get to post this last week's recap earlier. Had a lot of exams. I cleaned up the scores archive by merging duplicate entries, so some of you might notice that your score increased a bit.
Also no worries Skylarks dev, I made note of your submission in the other thread
-------- AGDG WEEKLY RECAP -------- Fill out the form to be a part of the weekly progress recap. Be sure to check out the "read me" link for important information on scoring and formatting. Submissions will be accepted for at least the next 36 hours.
Little GTA(1/2)-style car mechanic. Blue blocks to give you an anchor as to the position of the car in the world
Controls:
Up Arrow - Forward Down Arrow - Backward Left arrow - steer left right arrow - steer right space - brake
Tell me how you guys feel about how it steers/controls. I'm thinking of making the fulcrum of the steering a bit closer to the center of the car (not at the center though. Fulcrum must be in the rear)
Isaac Baker
>not making a game as a final effort to hold back the overwhelming, abyssal tide of hopelessness and despair >not discussing life decisions with your game

Luke Morales
>tfw i can create a simple prototype 2D game in less than an hour
Feels good to be an enginedev.
Jordan Thompson

>mobile game 1. make game 2. publish on play store 3. people find it by searching the play store 4. profit >pc game 1. make game 2. make a website for the game 3. make a devblog 4. still not enough, you need to shill your game everywhere 5. nobody cares about your game
Isaiah Evans
3. people find it by searching the play store this is actually wrong, you still need marketing
Andrew Foster
What the fuck is this game? looks really fun
Austin Wood
hollow knight
Kayden Cox
Looks like a dildo.
Carson Kelly
There's more combat depth in that webm than the entirety of hk
Jaxson Wright
HK is a platformer. That game looks more like muramasa.
Oliver Hughes
Is there any interest in a game in a style like this? Very simple 3D models with little to not texturing?
Nathaniel Clark
vaporware
Noah Morgan
About 99% of current indie games are like that so I guess there is interest...
Austin Turner
-------- FORMAT ----[ Recap ]---- Game: Infraction Dev: Foxar Tools: SFML, C++ Web: foxar.itch.io/ Progress: + Merged the demo branch of the project with the main one. + Fixed Main Menu issues and controls to not be so bad. - Failing my math classes.

Cameron Turner
I want to fill AGDG's tight post limit with my hot ideas!
Jayden Scott
Forgot the pic.
Dylan Moore
Lol damn does it really look that childish? I looked at mushbuh's art for inspiration but I guess his is a bit weirder and less childish.
Bentley Davis
Nice Ghost Babel clone.
Lincoln White
i'm here to show off my gimmick for my new game that I probably won't finish
changing gravity and shit
Lucas Richardson
Yeah it's called burrito galaxy 65 and I want to play it already.
Colton Sanders
nice sprite
Christian Bell
----[ Recap ]---- Game: Untitled Cabal Shooter Dev: user Tools: GMS, Photoshop Web: N/A Progress: +Got some good feedback from Demo Day +Settled on a general theme +Started producing sprites for player character -Art to-do list is longer than I thought it'd be
Christopher White
comparisons to VVVVVV are inevitable so I'm gonna get it out of the way and say "nice [spoilerjumpman[/spoiler] clone"
Blake Howard
thanks over 100 hours in photoshop
Ian Jenkins
fuck me in the ass
Caleb Russell
Pretty cool but maybe you could have him rotate as he goes up and down, as a cool gimmick
Samuel Wright
i have never played VVVVVV in my entire life. Though I liked the guy's other game (super hexagon)
Jacob Morgan
yep, that's the plan. Originally I wanted the entire world to actually rotate but I got put off by the math it would need because I'm lazy
Ayden Torres
That's literally VVVVVV and it already spawned a thousand of clones back when it was released so don't expect this to be anything other than a programming exercise.
Jace Young
>people find it amoung the other 2 billion games on the play store?
less than 2% of all of then were downladed and played ONCE
Carson Parker
this tbqh, I don't think you understand how deep the mobile crapware iceberg is, what you search and find in the play store is a tiny tiny fraction of what is released
One could argue that quality titles are more likely to rise to the top, but without having ever checked it myself my assumption is that the play store doesn't actually have a single good game on it.
Daniel Rogers
I see no problems here If I abandon this soon then too bad, let it live long enough then good for me.
Gonna add more features though to give it some more flavor so stay tuned my dudes
Kevin Mitchell
post game
Justin Johnson
...
Lincoln Powell
there at least one REALY good game, that i wish it was on pc on a plataform with buttons
that game is too good to be played on a shitty iphone
I'm assuming you've played Reassembly and at least one of the many iterations of Captain Forever?
Nathan Smith
>he makes 3d games stay pleb forever, cavemen.
Levi Foster
kek
Parker Gonzalez
Attempting to sort myself lead me to this general.
Jayden Thomas
Daily reminder that you'll never make it and your ideas are derivative of other, actually good games. Give up on your dreams now and become a web dev for $15/hr
Jayden Bailey
There are actually plenty of nice gems but you will have to deal with the billions of practically illegal virus-like bullshit games that force you to pay hundreds of dollars to continue playing or spam you with ads.
Google actively promotes this shit too since it gives them ad revenue. Google was a mistake.
The problem with amateur 3D development is that it's always going to be extremely primitive.
Michael Wright
----[ Recap ]---- Game: Monolith Dev: Team D-13 Tools: GM: Studio, Paint.net, pxTone Web: monolithdevs.itch.io/monolith,twitter.com/MonolithDevs,monolithdevs.tumblr.com/,steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=803820311 Progress: + first floor 5 miniboss added + rad sword slashes + crawlers can walk over gaps again, wasnt intended but works fine + cryomancers immune to icicles in a very special way + alttab mute is instant and doesnt (kind of) fuck up anymore + max ammo doesnt reduce your current ammo if its above the max ammo cap anymore + polished up a bunch of minor things (fireghosts, explosions, several miniboss deaths, etc) + final big enemy sprited
Hunter Clark
never heard of then. but from what i saw its more like Captain Forever than reassembly
Gabriel Davis
>he doesnt like primitive graphics
how can someone have such shit taste?
Ryder Thomas
I'd be more interested in the 2D platformer he was showing than the 3D one
Ian Long
That's nice, Phil.
Parker Ross
> tfw pixel art is too hard so you switch to 3d modeling
Lucas Butler
Best 3D Graphics of all time were on PS1. Low poly, no anti-aliasing/texture smoothing.
Christian Ramirez
Forgot pic related. Rival schools
Anthony Martinez
>there are talentless retards here who think art is important
Hudson Howard
----[ Recap ]---- Game: Ghost Knight Victis Dev: Anomalous Underdog Tools: Unity, Blender, Substance Painter, Photoshop CC Web: hypertensiongamedev.tumblr.com Progress: + Added back quick thrusts to the rapier attack combo + Fixed bugs where damaging couldn't occur if the attack animation's length is too short + Updated video card drivers which got rid of this nasty bug that made the whole laptop hang when I'm working in Unity - Preparing, uploading, and sharing downloadable demo ate up time - Had a terrible headache
Jackson White
Most PS1 games look absolutely abhorrent, there are some nice ones but mostly it's just terrible.
Jose Allen
>no Z buffer
Ayden Rogers
I pronounce this thread dead and that OP's a fag.
Austin Adams
if OP is such a fag then why are you the one drawing dicks
Justin Scott
How do I learn to art and sound/music?
Angel Peterson
You read tutorials and practice.
Colton Morris
Is there anyone here that has actually learned to create music based on tutorials? Same question for art. I know there are some that learned programming, but programming is easy.
Blake White
discipline, motivation, passion, persistence, the spark that makes you human, the driving force that tells you that you can be better than you are
but not talent, that's a meme
William Murphy
Anyone know of an example of a 3d game that captures the 80s cartoon feel (like He-Man) in its shaders? Most toon shaders either look like anime or comic book.
Isaac Smith
Click your heels together three times
Wyatt Turner
Yeah I know a decent amount of music and never had formal training, literally everything in life is all about just like learning the basics and doing thing.
Tyler Foster
Doing some clean up scripting, changed the way item tooltips are handled - originally it created a new object every time it moused over. Now it uses the same tooltip object but just disables it when you leave the slot and activates it and changes the info when you mouse over a new one.
This is a change that is completely unnoticable from the players perspective - outside of fixing a very rare bug that sometimes led to the tooltip not unloading correctly.
Adrian Rodriguez
>programming >easy
Ayden Cruz
>that captures the 80s cartoon feel (like He-Man) why the hell would you want this
