pve never teaches you what can and can;t be parried.
Hell, even pvp does a poor job of teaching that since there's no difference between an unparryable move and a failed attempt at parrying, and the inconsistencies in timing due to netcode mean that there's never any certainty that the failure was not human-error.

People only learn that ultras are all unparryable when 2H by looking it up online or dueling for hours and hours and hours. Random casual invaders who don't care enough to seek out a community don't really have any way of learning.

To hit things with a raw ASS then later switch to hitting things with a raw DCA, though you don't have to, they're just the best options basically. If you're okay with giving Irina severe conniptions you can get Gnaw, Deep Protection, and Dark Blade early on for some actually decent early miracles besides just heals. You can also slap Dancer and run the castle even earlier than that to get Blessed Weapon, Bountiful Light, and Magic Barrier from nearly the beginning of the game.
