Just FYI, you can download the Splatoon 2 Test Fire from the Switch eshop right now (currently only US and Japan). Obviously not playable, but at least you'll be ready.
Carson Peterson
I never understood why Splatfests ended so soon. It's not like they were hard to make.
Think up a theme, get some shitty art, write a few lines for Callie/Marie. Boom, you're done.
Easton Taylor
nintendo is fucking retarded and 20 years behind their competitors when it comes to online community engagement
while other companies understand that a multiplayer online centric game requires lots of attention to keep the community happy, nintendo thinks they can get away with doing the ABSOLUTE bare minimum, and that means they can't even bother setting up splatfests on a revolving timer.
if it was any other in-house nintendo team, we wouldn't have gotten splatfests at all
Jack Wilson
Nintendo was basically sunsetting the Wii U at that point, right? I guess they thought all those Japanese schoolkids were too much of a hassle to keep around.
They'll probably shut down the servers early 2018 as well.
Nicholas Cook
What motivation is there to invest in any new console when they're just gonna pull the plug when it invariably doesn't meet their sales expectations?
If they kill 3DS online, I'm so fucking done with nintendo, I literally just play animal crossing online these days.
Nicholas Watson
The Wii U's barely 4 year lifespan burned me pretty hard. I'm going to wait until Nintendo announces the 4DS or they make a revision on the Switch.
Nicholas Lee
>mario maker never got slopes
i still have nightmares about this
Luke Phillips
I don't think Nintendo anticipated Splatoon to be a successful game to begin with, they probably only planned to support it for a year before moving on. It was a new IP, depended on a community of online players, and was released on a console that wasn't selling, not exactly a good combination for success. Since it became a hit and Nintendo wants to pretend the Wii U never happened, I'm expecting the sequel to receive a lot more attention than its predecessor.
Eli Brown
You know what would have helped? in-game chat, like literally every other online shooter
what do they even gain from pretending to be family friendly when kids are playing M rated shooters anyway?
David Hall
Nintendo break into a cold sweat whenever they remember 90s lawsuits.
Ian Moore
>you couldn't even keep the Splatfest t-shirts
Oliver Morris
elaborate
Carter Brown
unfortunately the switch is the 4ds
Samuel Green
i don't know why the user is bringing up lawsuits but there were a bunch of news stories about the DS and how pedos used it to find kids
there was also claims that pedos were using swapnote to hook up with kids
a bunch of nonsense but people scare easy
Mason Lewis
is it? i'm having a hard time believing there won't be another portable once the Switch doesn't meet Nintendo's sale standards
maybe a retard proof version of the Switch like the 2DS?
Grayson Hughes
>90s >ds strange that i've never heard of that happening considering my parents and peers bought into every fear mongering campaign they encountered.
Jordan Cooper
Nintendo have said the Switch is not a successor to the 3DS, but they've also said the same thing about the DS and GameBoy. As far as Nintendo is concerned, Switch is not successor to the DS until it succeeds on the market.
Adam Allen
Hey hey, we're back. Thanks OP. Hopefully we'll be welcoming some testfire squibs soon.
Isaac Roberts
I'd half expect another 3DS Ambassador thing if it's really not selling. Do we have any numbers yet though?
Lucas Reyes
Do y'all think we'll get some super-good players from /ink/ in Splat 2? I'm really excited for what's in store.
Andrew Peterson
Ain't gonna be me, I can't get past S50. It's gonna be brutal for new players though, whatever happens, as the hardcore Japanese fanbase picks it up on day one.
Landon Rivera
>in-game chat
Jason Edwards
Have they gave any mention of how octolings are gonna feature in the new one yet?
Kayden Cox
Splatoon was trash years ago. And its still trash.
Your art is bad too.
Joshua Nguyen
No, but it looks like the octotroops are back as just regular cannon fodder again so probably the same role as before.
Adrian Morales
...
Zachary Richardson
Is there any reason why splatoon couldn't have offline multiplayer and bots other than pure greed? It seemed like such a waste to not be able to play against octolings when they were already part of the campaign.
Dominic Garcia
Dev time I guess? Passable bot ai isn't an insignificant task, especially given that the most important behaviour is something they'd have to invent pretty much from scratch.
James Reed
...
Jacob Gomez
>splatoon2 is literally splatoon with shittier tumblr fashion and a rock soundtrack >also paid online and you can't even chat without everyone in your party agreeing to use the same voice service
Wyatt Martinez
...
Alexander Martinez
>nintendo thinks they can get away with doing the ABSOLUTE bare minimum And they're right, look how happy people ate it up and are now bending over for the next entry on a somehow even shittier system than the wii u.
Ian Moore
>there was also claims that pedos were using swapnote to hook up with kids those weren't just claims, a whole lawsuit happened and is the very reason they shut down swapnote.
Jaxon Richardson
It just seems like such a wasted opportunity, they did all this worldbuilding and built a half-finished third person shooter around it.
It doesn't even seem like splatoon2 will fix any of the flaws of the first, it's literally more of the same, with paid online.
Luke Brooks
Pretty sure making the gameplay mechanics took more effort than a run of the mill worldbuilding with barely any characters and all lore told through some scrolls.
Noah Johnson
>when it comes to online community engagement Are you implying they're not behing in literally everything else?
Sebastian Garcia
i said half finished the single player campaign feels like an afterthought, and that's where you find all the scrolls
i don't even have any motivation to finish single player when it doesn't seem to get any harder and the levels are basically the same shit over and over, even down to that boss in the pool of ink level.
Gavin Lopez
>>also paid online People ate it up happily with the Xbox and PS4 so they'll eat it up in this case too. If people had standards nobody would buy a Switch.
Wyatt Perez
>it's literally more of the same, with paid online. Sounds like every new entry in a console online game series today.
Eli Butler
kek, every single nintendo-related general on Veeky Forums is about shitting on them.
Ian Garcia
>with doing the ABSOLUTE bare minimum, But the bare minimum would just be online matches and nothing else, meaning no splatfests at all. Most online games don't have anything beyond regular multiplayer matches.
Isaac Reed
i think he means adding new content semi-regularly, which is something that's considered normal in most multiplayer centric games these days
how hard is it to do events, really?
Easton Rogers
Finish singleplayer. The last boss is good.
Charles Gray
>i think he means adding new content semi-regularly They did, the game had constant updates, and free too, usually maps on other games are paid dlc. Including game modes. Then again Splatoon had very little content at launch.
Carter Jones
i fucking hate niggers so much
Liam Flores
Look at that classy ass chopstick rest.
Dominic Rodriguez
How are they even going to be a threat? The trailer shows them underground in the dark. You already took away their power and deposed their leader. What are you gonna take from them next, their jobs so they're forced to live on welfare from the inkling government?
Angel Smith
they didn't even attempt to write a new plot
splatoon 2 won't even have a single player mode
Thomas Sanders
Why's Marie's hair black?
Leo Jones
They already confirmed that there is going to be a hero mode
Anthony Morris
Does anyone still play private matches with people from this general or did I miss the boat?
Adam Collins
I've actually never squid squadded with anyone in this game. My S-Rank has been achieved through just random matchups
Grayson Anderson
The feeling I get from the story of the game's development makes me think that Nintendo had very little faith in this game and was really just throwing their younger developers a bone. Then suddenly it blew up and actually managed to move their dying console.
Josiah Taylor
Why did they market it so hard if they didn't have any faith in it? They made it one of their A-level franchises on the same level as animal crossing and mario.
Jaxon Gomez
Kinda missed the boat. You might find someone to twin squad with.
Sebastian Evans
I don't remember the timeline exactly, but I feel like there wasn't much marketing until the testfire hit. Maybe they noticed people going nuts about it and decided to throw some budget around.
Aaron Collins
>Why did they market it so hard if they didn't have any faith in it?
Well for one thing, the Wii U was lacking in games. Also, much of the more intense marketing came after the positive reception to the first versions of the game and even after its release. You can also kind of thank Shigeru Miyamoto for Callie and Marie since he told the developers that if they couldn't come up with marketable characters for the game, he would put Mario in it.
Cameron Richardson
>he would put mario in it he's literally become a parody of himself
Kayden Davis
>since he told the developers that if they couldn't come up with marketable characters for the game, he would put Mario in it.
Makes him sound like some sort of threatening mob boss, telling them it'd be a shame if they can't find a good face for the franchise as he idly turns a mario amiibo over in his hands.
Elijah Morgan
To be fair, there is sometimes a method to Shiggy's madness. Nintendo owes a lot to the recognizable nature of its "brand" which is due to its slew of heavily marketed Nintendo characters from various franchises. as fun as Splatoon is in its core gameplay, I feel like we wouldn't be talking about it as much if there was no lore.
Owen Morris
does anyone even talk about the lore since day one, /v/ liked splatoon simply because it looked refreshingly different and they wanted to fuck all the squids
Andrew Scott
You've got a point there, I love me some deepest lore.
Cameron Rogers
>does anyone even talk about the lore
lots of people actually, /v/ thinks it's /pol/ the game.
Also, the final Splatfest was a big deal because of the emotional investment everyone had in their favorite squid sister, which Nintendo realized was probably the primary motivation for most people's decisions during Splatfests
Thomas Brooks
i think there was a whole 7 minutes between the E3 announcement and the first piece of splatoon porn
Blake Powell
One of the biggest questions after the Splatoon 2 trailer also was "Where's Callie/Aori?"
Brandon Ortiz
Ever since the first Splatfest I always treated it as Callie vs Marie. I was also in the top 100 for the Splatfests that had leaderboards. For team Marie of course.
Chase Hughes
I feel like that's almost industry standard now.
Elijah Adams
10 minutes is the industry standard
Brandon Cox
We've really made good steps towards getting that figure down, but as always we strive to improve.
Levi White
inklings aren't for lewd
Benjamin Kelly
What if it's elegant?
Aaron Brooks
...
Christopher Smith
it's unavoidable. they practically lewd themselves.
Matthew Gonzalez
>elegant >lewd
pick one
Honestly, I haven't seen that much actual Squid Sisters porn relative to the amount of Splatoon porn there is. And the ratio of all ages doujinshi to ero-doujins seems pretty balanced compared to other franchises. And I mean actual porn, not just slightly ecchi artwork
I get the impression that a lot of people just don't see the Splatoon characters that way.
Michael Fisher
...
Colton Collins
i wonder where all the Marie fans are, you'd think since she got a spot on the reveal trailer there would be more returning
Noah Carter
I'm right here, I just don't marie post.
Jayden Mitchell
I think the fact that Callie is no where to be seen in the trailer has made her fans panic and become a loud minority. Marie fans know she's alive and well, so they remain quiet. Personally I'm wondering why she seems so pensive in the trailer.
Josiah Cooper
CALLIE IS FUCKING DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAD
Luis Bailey
What happened to her nose?
Carter Hill
tumblr happened
Jace Long
Callie got mad after the final splatfest and moved Marie's nose up and to the right
Joshua Diaz
...
Wyatt Jackson
wtf there is a splatoon general? Didn't realize this game is so big
Juan Richardson
If the thread already has to be kept alive with image posting I think we should let the thread die and wait until the testfire is sooner before making a new thread.
Evan Flores
Splatoon generals have been on life support since Splatfests ended last year. Right now we're just waiting for Splatoon 2 to come out so we have something to play and talk about again.
Josiah Carter
i agree, /ink/ was a mistake, it should have stayed dead. in fact, all this thread has done is ruin the board, splatoon should have never existed
Elijah Jones
We're mostly just treading water waiting for the sequel out at the moment. I don't know how big Splatoon is compared to other generals, considering the Wii U isn't a huge console, but it had like a 50% attach rate.
Brayden Fisher
does the new hub look kinda small? i know the plaza was kinda empty, but it was really big, and a perfect place for the sisters to perform
maybe live performances have been cut to condense the hub area
Leo Watson
Looks about the same size floor space wise to me, but much less open in terms of the layout, especially with all the vertical architecture leaning in.
Luis Wood
They haven't been shown what's behind the camera yet, and Crusty Sean's food truck is around somewhere. I think we've only seen a fraction of Inkopolis Square so far.
Jace Nguyen
>/ink/ dies >productivity skyrockets well there's the end of that it could just seem enclosed from the angle of the photo. I remember being surprised by how open the plaza was in Splatoon 1.
Robert Wood
>all this thread has done is ruin the board how so?
Evan Bell
>posting images in an imageboard those monsters
Julian Richardson
if i remember correctly, your thread was the only one to ever flood the board with empty threads, have obnoxious spammers advertising in other threads and finally be a breeding ground for Discord and Drawfags
